while back-tracking his threatening anti-Biden language, after receiving a phone call from the Secret Service.....
Probably should try to control your bladder better, Johnny...
My instinct says that urine is bad for paint, although peeing all over the Confederate battle flag
is an appropriate moral response....
P.S. The word 'actor' was used in a broad rhetorical fashion, although that WAS his claimed profession way back when....
however, I have no idea whatever happened to him after 'The Dukes of Hazzard'. Perhaps he had one or two appearances in Hallmark movies or some other throw-away appearance....

(5,410 posts)I suppose I am a tad jealous, although I was fairly pretty back then, myself....
I was bemused by the 'feminine response' to him at the time...
But fortunately I do not rely upon has-been 'actors' from 40-some years ago,
who are no longer very pretty, for advice about what my political opinions should be, now...
Frankly, John Schneider was the male-equivalent 'actor'
to the blonde girl who was the 'big news' on 'Baywatch' a bit later---
what was her name, again ???

(3,363 posts)He has a very beautiful singing voice, I have to admit that. While Dukes was on the air, he had a successful country music career going on.
He was one of three blond TV stars I had a crush on as a kid of the 1980s who frankly watched too much TV. The others were Dean Butler of Little House and Larry Wilcox of CHiPs.
So sad to see him go magat. He really did seem like one of the good guys back then.

(5,410 posts)I suppose we were less sensitive about such things back then.... at least, the white people like me were clueless...
That is interesting about his 'country music career' as you call it, I have no recollection of that....but I was a rocker
As far as I know, I never heard his singing voice.... but the music industry is very difficult,
and the 'voice' does not necessarily have anything to do with 'success'--
although a successful television series can't hurt....
(The Monkees? Anyone? Anyone?)
Yes, it is disappointing when old stars begin to sniff the shorts of Trumpism....

(3,363 posts)I was born the same year Dukes premiered, and I watched as a wee one along with my parents - who also watched Dallas and Falcon Crest right after. (CBS did have ratings gold on Friday nights in the 1980s!!) I was too little then to grasp what the Confederate flag stood for, and when I was reintroduced to the show in the 2000s via DVD I was uncomfortable with it.
If you can stomach it, look up John Schneider's cover of "It's Now or Never". It made the Billboard Top 20 in 1982, I believe. He had several hits on the country charts as well, and his voice seemed well-suited for that genre. I don't know why he didn't have a long-term successful music career. I'm not saying he was another Kenny Rogers or George Strait or Eddie Rabbitt, but I can't begrudge him his voice. Just sad that he ended up on a crappy show like The Masked Singer to use it.
But I digress...

(3,363 posts)So many of those guys on TV shows I grew up watching turned out to be mean and hateful magats. He can take a few seats over there with Scott Baio and Ricky Schroeder. Leave the rest of us alone!!

(5,410 posts)John Schneider was the pretty-boy blonde star of a popular US television series from 1979-1985 called 'The Dukes of Hazzard' https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Dukes_of_Hazzard
In the show, the southern heroes drove about in a souped-up Dodge Charger they called the 'General Lee', which was painted with a Confederate flag on the roof, outwitting a corrupt local sheriff in episode after episode.... It was mostly comedy with some action....
After that series was ended, I recall no starring roles for him anywhere.... I hope he was conservative with all the money he earned from that TV series...
Well, you might have noticed that now he is under investigation by the US Secret Service, because he publicly stated that President Joe Biden should be hanged..... Now he is rapidly backtracking, claiming that his statements were 'not a threat'.
That is the short version.....
I saw that show a little, but I was not terribly impressed---
and John Schneider will not be starring in any remakes of 'Gone With The Wind'
or 'The Dukes of Hazzard' either, because it will never be "re-made"

but that didn't make him into an 'actor', either---

(3,363 posts)...on Tyler Perry's "The Haves and the Have-Nots" on the Oprah Winfrey Network. He played a sleazy politician - go figure!! That show was pretty successful and ran for several years in the 2010s. It was his first real villain role of note and I was actually uncomfortable watching him on that show. It seemed too...real.
In real life, he had a very messy and public divorce with his wife of 20 years. He went on DWTS and mentioned several times that his grown children were not talking to him. He took up with his personal manager, eventually married her and she died of cancer earlier this year. Then he made his way to The Masked Singer...

(5,410 posts)actually I am more familiar with Tyler Perry's productions
than the little white guy who used to be as pretty as me... or something.... HAHAHAHA
I had a messy divorce myself, mostly my fault--- but thank god the marriage was only 5 years, and we had no children together....
for both our sakes

(3,363 posts)...oh, and he was arrested a few years ago for not paying his ex alimony. (I don't think child support was an issue as his kids were all grown by that point.)
Not to make light of a tragedy, and certainly everyone grieves differently than others, but his going public this year with his wife's passing just struck me as...bizarre. He posted photos of himself crying. Not candid shots...professionally done portraits by a photographer. He gave interview upon interview. You would think that upon losing a spouse, one would desire privacy, but... The whole thing just struck me as odd and also disturbing. Everyone has the right to grieve, even publicly. This just seemed a bit beyond the pale.
