Trump Lawyer Sports Gamer Laptop At $250 Million Fraud Trial [Update: She Says It Belonged To The Court]
Alina Habba's Asus ROG glowed blue after she opened it in court
And then she blamed the court.
Today is the first day of former president Donald Trumps $250 million fraud trial in New York. A case brought by the states attorney general accuses the Republican primary frontrunner of lying about his net worth by billions of dollars to try to secure more favorable loan terms. One of his attorneys, Alina Habba, showed up with what appears to be an Asus ROG gaming laptop. Its RGB logo changed colors during the hearing.

The laptop in question looks like it could be the ROG Strix G17 G712 model. Originally released in 2021, it sports a 17-inch screen, an RTX 2070 Super GPU, 2.3 GHz Intel i7, 16GB of DDR4 memory, and of course, an RGB keyboard and light bar with Asus Aura Sync. It currently sells for about $1,700.
Habba did not immediately respond to a request for comment about what the exact model of the laptop was, how often she games on it, or if Trump has ever watched her play on it.

(57,259 posts)There seems to be some kind of lack of focus on what needs to be done for her client in this trial...perhaps too much time spent gaming?
Pro tip to trump: You get what you pay for with lawyers.

(154,037 posts)I guess that Habba spends more time playing games rather than checking the box for a jury trial

(13,407 posts)With the ability to present multiple screens at once and still search the Internet and take notes without lagging. Just be polite and put a sticker or skin over it so you don't disrupt the Court or your co-workers.
Plus, while they aren't a "toughbook", they're really a reliable brand.
I got one for engineering work as a remote desktop on sale 5 years ago on sale and it's still running strong.

good information.
My HP laptop is almost two years old now and I swear it is failing. I've actually been thinking about a Mac, but I use MS Office and need that ability. I don't game, but have multiple browsers, with multiple windows, open all the time.

(2,181 posts)Ive purchased a gaming laptop or two. Ive also done a lot of research before buying them. In general gaming laptops are the most powerful laptops you can buy. Theres nothing required in a lawyers office computing power wise that that gaming laptop couldnt handle (probably) better than any business toughbook you want to put it up against.
Gaming laptops generally have more memory and a bigger hard drive. The huge difference is usually in the video card and video memory. Theres noreason it isnt every bit as effective as the laptops our side uses.
Want to talk about the competence of Alina? Thats where hes going to stumble. He hired her entirely for her appearance. Wonder how long she will stay when she realizes hes not going to pay her either?
I wonder what her experience level is? What cases has she defended before? How did she fare? I havent seen very much about that.

(12,571 posts)I'm sure they know there is nothing wrong with using a gaming laptop (which could conceivably have been purchased to be able to handle video and large amounts of files) - but hey "look at the dumb lawyer playing games during the trial" gets hits.
I've also seen them back off to "BUT IT'S UNPROFESSIONAL!!!!"
Whatever. She's incompetent for multiple reasons, using a power laptop isn't one of them.

(2,181 posts)Not during the trial eh?
The story about Bankman Fried the other day mentioned that he played league of legends while on zoom calls with investors.
I wonder if people are conflating the two stories?

(17,816 posts)Seeing how she misses checking boxes, the attorney might not own her own computer so she wouldn't know a lot about tech.
In any case, I don't know why she'd need a gaming computer to get parking permits in order.

(17,816 posts)My observation about a lawyer not owning her gaming computer stands out. Interesting.
Oh well. It's a free country. If you like, you can believe she owns a computer -- as must every lawyer.

(5,760 posts)However, I can see the RGB display being a bit distracting for the court. Its also not a light laptop, so, not exactly ideal for a lawyer.
Thanks for the morning chuckle.

(17,395 posts)That should have been appealed with a demand for a stay within hours of the decision, not 4 days into the trial.
It's pointless now.
Woops.
Maybe the appellate court will stay the dissolution of business licenses if that hasn't already happened. But it may have, in which case, another fuck up Supreme.
But the court case will proceed at this point either way. They won't stop it now that it's started and witnesses are appearing.
