'I'm going to help! (signed, Barack Obama)

President Obama promises two New Jersey girls that he'll help grandma and other Hurricane Sandy victims

Two New Jersey sisters were squealing with delight Thursday after President Obama immediately responded to their heart-tugging letters for help.

Kate and Maggie Traina, ages 14 and 11, were thrilled when they learned that Obama would be visiting their grandparents, whose Staten Island home was demolished by Hurricane Sandy.

(Maggie's letter):

(Kate’s letter):

“When I had found out that my grandparents’ house was demolished as a result of the recent hurricane, it felt as if time stopped,” it read. “The realization of what Sandy had done was hard to grasp as I sorted through the remains of part of my childhood.”

Notes in hand, the girls’ grandparents, Sheila and Dominic Traina, met Obama outside their flattened green bungalow on Cedar Grove Ave.

After Sheila Traina gave the President the letters, he immediately called for paper and pen and jotted a message back: “Maggie and Kate, Thanks for the letter. I’m going to help! Barack Obama.”
