We Have Two Medias in This Country, and They're Going to Elect Donald Trump
https://newrepublic.com/article/175612/two-medias-trump-2024-spectacle
No paywall https://archive.ph/F0XbQ It’s often asked in my circles: Why isn’t Joe Biden getting more credit for his accomplishments? As with anything, there’s no single reason. Inflation is a factor. His age is as well. Ditto the fact that people aren’t quite yet seeing the infrastructure improvements or the lower prescription drug costs. There is no one reason. But there is one overwhelming factor in play: the media. Or rather, the two medias. It’s very important that people understand this: We reside in a media environment that promotes—whether it intends to or not—right-wing authoritarian spectacle. At the same time, as a culture, it’s consistently obsessed with who “won the day,” while placing far less value on the fact that the civic and democratic health of the country is nurtured through practices such as deliberation, compromise, and sober governance. The result is bad for Joe Biden. But it’s potentially tragic for democracy. Let me begin by discussing these two medias. The first, of course, is what we call the mainstream media: The New York Times, The Washington Post, the major (non-Fox) news networks, a handful of other newspapers and magazines. This has also been known as the “agenda-setting media,” because historically, that’s what they did: Whatever was the lead story in The New York Times that day filtered down, through the wire services and other delivery systems, to every newspaper and television and radio station in the United States. Then there’s an avowedly right-wing propaganda network. This got cranked up in the 1970s, when conservatives, irate over what they (not incorrectly) saw as a strong liberal bias in the mainstream media, decided to build their own. Rupert Murdoch bought the New York Post. In the 1980s, the Reverend Sun Myung Moon started The Washington Times. In the 1990s, right-wing talk radio exploded (enabled, in part, by a 2–1 decision by a judicial panel of the D.C. Court of Appeals making the Fairness Doctrine discretionary; those judges were Antonin Scalia and Robert Bork). Then the Fox News Channel was launched. *snip*

1. They jump all over him for bringing hostages home from a hostile nation.
I haven’t even heard one person talk about the positive side of bringing these people home from Iran. And even the so-called mainstream media so eager to tell us what the Republicans are gonna say, they never really report the facts

2. At this time we have one party that can do nothing and another that won't do anything about
the problems that have torn our country apart. Yes, Trump may very well win. That is terrifying.

3. My gut feeling is that tRump won't win. But the long term damage is done thanks to tRaitor tRump ...
MAGA/GQP, Faux News, and all the other propaganda networks. The Media loves interviewing a mad man, an evil dictator, a deranged animal just so they can fill their pockets with ad money and big dollars. $$$
HOW does a 2nd term Biden White House deal with this pro-moneymaking,, mostly gas-lighting and caping for the GQP news media in another term? Look at how MOST this media are starting this drumbeat of going after Kamala Harris now in print form. Back to the NY Times, Ron DeathSantis would not meet with Pres. Biden, yet the NY Times writer said the Pres. Biden wouldn't meet with that evil, slavery-loving dictator DeathSantis. OF all people, Rick Scott told a reporter that DeathSantis wouldn't meet with the President. Scott said I'm here, and the Governor should have been here today too. Rick Scott said that--the man who wants to get rid of social security, a big crook and major reich-winged asshole. tRump is as ready to be president as my 11 year old great niece, yet the lame stream, money-grubbing media's running after and give tRump lots of time to spew, lie, gas-light keeps harping on Pres. Biden' age and Kamala Harris's 'woeful' inexperience. The so-called Gray Lady is DEAD. We can NOW say that with conviction and with FACTS. |

4. I once saw an interview with Al Franken.
They asked him why is it you can be anywhere in the country and turn on your radio and get a right wing talk show, but not a left wing talk show?
His answer was "Well, because they did it." |

7. Two medias: Fauxney News and CorpoPravda
1. Fauxney News - Faux News and all the even loonier variations of wingnut fantasy.
2. CorpoPravda (I also call it Plutocracy Pravda) - the MSM that seldom outright lie and stay close enough to truth to maintain some credibility but twist, select, distort, and name (or misname) to promote the plutocrats and keep the plebeians (sp?) ignorant of what's really happening. (Some brazen examples: the incredibly strong Biden economy that CorpoPravda has convinced the public is in the dumpster; the "Dems in disarray" mantra; always using the Republican propaganda name as the official CorpoPravda name for anything (e.g. "heartbeat bills" for a fetus that doesn't even have a heart yet, "unborn baby" for fetus, etc. etc. ad nauseum)). Virtually all media are one or the other, except MSNBC in very recent years. The plutocracy and giant corporations flood Fauxney News and CorpoPravda with money for commercials for booze, cars, trucks, and gas, while any liberal media (remember Air America?) have to survive selling ads for self-hypnosis tapes and weird dietary supplements because the plutocracy doesn't want liberal ideas to be heard and so won't advertise on liberal media. |
