3. According to this article, authorities don't think the plane crashed after the pilot ejected:

I wonder if they're envisaging a "Cornfield Bomber" scenario? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cornfield_Bomber |

5. Newer reports are suggesting the F-35 went down in one of two lakes
Based on the missing plane’s location and trajectory, the search for the F-35 Lightning II jet was focused on Lake Moultrie and Lake Marion, said Senior Master Sgt. Heather Stanton at Joint Base Charleston. Both lakes are north of North Charleston.

4. Depending on what variant it is, one F-35 costs $80-120 million.
It should have an internal navigation module to track its location.
Maybe that was damaged when it went down. I would think they have other location devices onboard. This is crazy, if an F-35 fell into enemy hands it would be very bad. And we would need to go find it and blow it up if we could. Thank goodness no one was left onboard and it crashed in friendly civilian territory. So an enemy cannot reverse engineer it and get very valuable high tech information worth a great deal of money. But it looks like it is going to take some time to find. Searching like in the old days? Planes flying a grid map looking for it. Or troops go by jeep and truck looking for it. Today probably using drones too. I think most pilots carry a personal location device, but of course he bailed and it remained on his person. I feel bad he crashed such an expensive aircraft but as they say in the USAF any accident you walk away from is a good accident. It was his lucky day. |

14. Thinking it wouldn't fall into enemy hands if it goes/went down over the US is naive
Couple decades ago, when a fighter jet disappeared, there was some justified worry that it may have landed on one of many generally deserted stretches of highway in Montana, and been 'harvested' by some local or out of state militia guys who have a pilot or two. There was some quiet 'sniffing around' in eastern Montana before the downed jet/missing pilot were accounted for some time later, in Colorado if memory serves.
This was not too long after the big FBI/Militia standoff in eastern Montana, so there was reasonable concern about the possibility that the jet was landed and hidden. Since the pilot ejected from this recent jet, probably not the same worries. But some officials did worry about that possibility back a couple decades, before they found the wreckage of the missing jet. Knowing that some members of the military are sympathetic to certain far right wing groups, officials know a landing or crash over the US is not a sure bet that everything is OK. |

18. Yes I agree
I wrote another post and said enemies could certainly find it. This aircraft is worth billions of dollars in classified technology. That is why the military is asking for civilian help.
I was initially was thinking of planes going down in Vietnam. But yes the Chinese are looking for that plane as we speak. |

7. Maybe a apple air tag would have helped?
![]() If the plane did not crash and continued to fly without the pilot it could be anywhere. I wonder if it has one of those underwater pinging devices. They just need a general location to know where to start listening. m |

8. This is silly.
I can tap my phone and it tells me where my Ford is at. But our military has no idea where a $100 million dollar aircraft is?

9. It's a "stealth" aircraft. It's not supposed to be easily found.
It may have been on radio silence when it went down, and it has a low radar signature.
They may have genuinely lost it. It's not like they can use an app on their phone to locate it like a car. |
