Majority Leader Chuck Schumer loosens Senate's informal dress codeMajority Leader Chuck Schumer loosens Senate's informal dress code
Sept. 17, 2023, 4:47 PM EDT By Julie Tsirkin, Frank Thorp V and Summer Concepcion WASHINGTON — Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., has quietly changed the Senate’s informal dress code to allow senators to wear whatever they want on the floor, a person with direct knowledge said. A notice went out to the Senate sergeant-at-arms and relevant staff members late Friday, and the change will go into effect starting Monday, the source said. The change would let Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., who is often seen wearing a hoodie and baseball shorts, wear his casual attire on the Senate floor whenever he wants. Fetterman, who was elected in last year’s midterm elections, wore a suit and a tie at his swearing-in in January. However, he has worn his casual clothes after he returned to the Senate following treatment for clinical depression this year. Schumer’s and Fetterman’s offices did not immediately respond to requests for comment. 23. Nor do I want to see MTG in her CrossFit gear with her bizarre Flintstone manicured toes.
Not to mention Gaetz in filthy flipflops with his nasty feet.
As much as I like Fetterman, (and I'll take any backlash for my opinion), I think Schumer made a big mistake. Most of the public believes in the RELATIVE civility of the Senate that the arcane deferential language required to refer to each other and the dress code encourages. As much as we all like "casual," they are in front of CSPAN cameras as our paid elected officials, and I think respectful dress is not only appropriate but a necessity. |

But I doubt she'll be back.

8. Cringe...relax a bit..yeah..."Wear whatever they want?"
Well, if it was me: Tank tops without a bra, my New Balance EE's, and loose fitting shorts. Essentially, I would wear my gardening clothes or workout clothes to work.

9. I have a problem with relaxing the code for themselves but not their staff
while there are some fairly poor Senators none of them are as poor as their staff and it is unfair for the staff to have to spring for suits while the Senators won't have to.

But honestly... I weat T-shirts and shorts when I'm working 99% of the time.

I too wear T-shirts & shorts when working from home, but I go more business casual when I'm going somewhere people will see me.

The videos of them reading mean tweets sent to and about them are real funny, too.

with casual dress, but I think he should resist wearing his hoodies on the Senate floor.

having already eschewed the dress code with the sleeveless tops.
