Chinese Shipbuilding Capacity Over 200 Times Greater Than The US, Claims Navy IntelligenceChinese Shipbuilding Capacity Over 200 Times Greater Than The US, Claims Navy Intelligence
https://www.marineinsight.com/shipping-news/chinese-shipbuilding-capacity-over-200-times-greater-than-the-us-claims-navy-intelligence/
A leaked slide from the U.S. Office of Naval Intelligence (abbreviated the ONI) has raised some concerns regarding China’s ever-expanding navy and its shipbuilding capabilities that surpass those of the U.S. The slide which circulated online, shows that China’s shipyards have a capacity of more than 232 times that of the U.S., with China producing nearly 23.2 million tons of vessels compared to less than 100,000 tons in the U.S. The ONI also estimated that China boasted 355 naval vessels in 2020, while the U.S. had about 296, and such a disparity is likely to keep growing. The Chinese dominance in commercial shipping has implications for U.S. security and the economy, as a significant portion of the global supply chain relies on Chinese shipping. Warships are a category where a comparison of number can give an extremely inaccurate impression. However shipbuilding is an industry the US has allowed to languish and will pay a price, should it ever become key again.

1. I have heard that their aircraft carrier is lacking in some regards, so yeah, they may have excess
capacity, but is it good and is it mainly for smaller craft, since a sizeable portion of their population lives on the rivers, the coasts?

2. Production of Liberty Ships was a key component to our victory in WWII.
We could simply build cargo ships faster than the Japanese and Germans could sink them.
We were victorious in WWII because of our industrial might. China gets that. We are now into industrial profits and have given up on making stuff. |

3. While China does have the capability to build some of the largest ships on the ocean
I suspect most of that capacity is dedicated towards much smaller ships than modern surface combatants

14. Thanks. I agree w/ you, their capabilities reside w/ the construction of smaller vehicles, which
I think rests w/ the demands of the large population, a large portion does reside on the water, they do seem to have a large fishing presence (which is actually causing some problems w/ some countries such as Ecuador etc. where the Chinese fishing fleets are overfishing their fishing grounds).

4. American shipbuilders have hands full with warships...someone has to pick up the commercial slack.
Seems like we have all heard this story before about western versus eastern manufacturing capacities and abilities of all kinds…that are mostly all not military.

7. Yet China is also building more warships
Than the US. While already having more hulls in the water than we do.
So seems the US has a double problem. |

5. Guess the Pentagon needs another Trillion...
In all seriousness though... Ships and tanks are dinosaurs.
We're entering the age of robotic combatants like drones/UAV's... Aircraft carriers are a big fat target for hypersonic anti ship missiles... Tanks are destroyed with a $40,000 Shoulder fired ATGM. Future ships might be launching pads for hundreds of drones... with no crew. |

9. Tonnage wise, the US Navy is twice as big as the Chinese Navy.
People often refer to the adage that one needs a 3-1 advantage but that doesn't mean numbers. It means having a 3-1 advantage in capability.
We shouldn't expect to see a powerful Chinese battle group operating on the other side of the world for months at a time for quite awhile if ever in our lifetimes. They are a long way off from having that capability. |

12. We won't know for sure until fighting actually starts
At the beginning of WWII, both Americans and Germans found out that their torpedos didn't work as advertised in real combat .
And there's a reason why few nations purchase Chinese military equipment despite the far lower cost. They don't work well |

15. Arms Race! Again! ...military and war factories rejoice!...still, the planet burns.
Lies about China, make it another enemy…would make a good foil for more money for a guns!
Isn’t the anti China and gun propaganda obvious!? Look, a giant white balloon with no transmitters…panic!! Need More money for guns!…cause…balloon!! If only America put half the effort into making friends rather than enemies. But the government of the pentagon will always not permit,,, America has 30 nuclear weapon subs….no one else has. Still not secure?.? What will it take..more guns and ammo!? It’s a lie. |

16. The article is about commercial ship building,..read before hate is good!
America is the leader in war waste, hands down, no question…never audited…trillion a year…half the budget…criminal…
Desperately trying to equate any military to Americas obscenely huge and expensive and unaudited war machine… But this deflection to China is gold…helps war machine immensely, |
