I recall very clearly that it was common knowledge that he moved his residence from the rather lower income part of the city, to a much more upscale part while he was still a representative because he was planning to run for Senate.

I often wonder if his POW experience is the only reason people have been giving him a pass all these years, because he has more skeletons in his closet than Halloween store. 16. I believe you are correct. He gets a pass because of having been a POW.

And there's a lot out there saying he cooperated with his captors and was treated relatively well by him, and that he was not tortured as he claims to have been. I have no idea of the actual truth of those statements.

But it is true that he abandoned his first wife and took up with his current one while still married. Charmingly enough, they both lied to each other about their ages on their first date. So he is not exactly a man of unsullied integrity.
