According to a state lawmakers announcement on social media, the Texas State Library and Archives Commission (TSLAC) will cut ties with the American Library Association.
Rep. Brian Harrison (R-Midlothian) posted that after he made his request last month for TSLAC to leave the ALA, he was informed that they will not renew their contract with them.
This is a win for all Texans, Harrison said. I applaud the courageous and decisive decision by (TSLAC) Chairwoman Matha Wong.
In July, Harrison called on TSLAC to leave the ALA after the national organization elected a self-described Marxist lesbian as its president.
ALA President Emily Drabiniski ran for the position on an openly socialist platform, and in the lead up to the election posted a number of tweets and gave interviews where she described herself as being on labors side and said her tenure will be socialist in tone.
Some opponents of TSLACs move took to social media to voice their opinions, with progressive activist group Mothers Against Greg Abbott calling it corruption and claiming that Texas becomes more fascist by the day.

(46,392 posts)TSLAC is the agency that manages all state funds to libraries and handles the pass through of lots of federal funding for libraries. Every contact I ever had with them was awesome. So competent, so committed to helping local libraries. I really believe the only reason they would do something like this is because a major loss of funding was threatened if they didn't.
