I think they are maneuvering very carefully so that whatever they do will stick and not be reversed on appeal. That means very carefully avoiding the appearance that they have pre-judged TFG on the basis of that very history. Every measure that is actually taken will be a very reasonable response to something TFG undeniably did. I expect future steps will be no discussing the case at all in the press, no statements to press at all, no phone or internet, and ankle bracelet before we get to jail. But it's coming.
