The battle for control of the Arkansas House has come down to a recount in Independence County.
Recounts Tuesday in Jackson and Poinsett counties left Republican John K. Hutchison with a 45-vote lead over Democrat L.J. Bryant. Poinsett County has up to 10 provisional and military ballots to consider Friday, but by themselves they cannot overturn last week's election results.
Independence County will recount votes Thursday. Craighead County verified its totals Friday.
The outcome in the District 52 race will determine control of the Arkansas House. If Hutchison holds on, Republicans will hold a 51-48-1 margin over Democrats and the Green Party and control the chamber for the first time since Reconstruction.
The GOP also won the Senate last week.
The unofficial tally shows Hutchison leading 5,049-5,004.
