Call me crazy but I think this is the beginning of the end of the war.

(22,945 posts)This is the beginning of the end.
And Russia will have little choice but to pull troops out to try to defend or retake Moscow in the next several days.

True Dough
(23,353 posts)but let's face it, there's really not much left of Bakhmut at all. Practically reduced to rubble.

(7,584 posts)If Bakhmut is lightly defended because of Wagner's exit, Ukraine may decide to push through it in an attempt to get behind Russian defensive lines. If Ukraine could succeed in that, Russia would be in serious jeapardy of getting rolled up just like what happened in Kharkiv Oblast last year.

(10,894 posts)This week/this month/this summer, will be coup de gras, and Russia will have no choice but to admit defeat, regardless of who's running the govt in moscow.

(17,761 posts)Rostov-on-Don is a major supply hub, possibly the supply hub, to russian operations in Ukraine.
If supplies are no longer flowing, russian forces in Ukraine are effectively cut off. Rostov-on-Don supplies not only luhansk and donets, but also Crimea and therefore kherson.
Woops. Too bad. So sad. Anyway....

(97,021 posts)It may also be the end of russia as a country, which would be best, but also...
It appears that Belorussians are seeing a major opportunity ahead.

(9,883 posts)While the Wagner mutiny reminds me a lot of the 1917 Russian military collapse, Im not going to say that the currents of history have changed until the Ukrainians retake the territories they lost last year and start marching on the ones they lost earlier.

Actually, I'm hoping this is the beginning of the end of Putin...and it just may be.

(86,702 posts)And how bloodthirsty and/or power-hungry are they?
A potential ally or a bigger headache?
WinstonSmith4740
(3,335 posts)The head of Wagner is no bargain, and nobody in Putin's circle could possibly be any better. My personal fantasy/wish is Putin fleeing (which may be happening...from what I just read here his plane is in the air), and his political prisoners being released. I think Alexei Navalny would be welcomed on the world stage. And, of course, watching Trump's head explode would be a bonus.
