...this is a bit. The accuracy is less relevant.
But, we agree on their strength.
Like when Iraq had the 4th strongest military in world just before Desert Storm, and then the allied nation took 15 minutes to rout them.
If Russia didn't have leftover nukes, nobody would pay any attention to their military "power".

In 1979 when 3 'crack' divisions invaded Vietnam as a reaction to Vietnam's lightning strike and defeat of the Khmer Rouge the Vietnamese handed them their ass.

During the one month battle China suffered 30,000 fatalities compared to the US 65,000 over a decade.

Despite having massive numerical advantage and a sizeable armored presence of 500 tanks the Chinese were humiliated by Vietnam's second team as their best divisions were in Cambodia.

China had the advantages of numbers, equipment and a surprise attack and suffered massive loses from a defensive army that was made up 50% full time soldiers and 50% home guard part time soldiers.

China hasn't had much real time combat experience (unless you count attacking unarmed civilians at Tiananmen Square).

China may have the second best parade army but is not considered very effective as a military force. If you put China, Vietnam and North Korea into one on one battles China would be lucky to rank second out of these three.

China’s military is simply not very good. The majority of its members serve in the ground forces, but so lack in transport and mobile logistics assets that they are more aptly described as internal security personnel. Their training ranges from spotty to poor. Moreover, the armed forces remain plagued by poor pay, nepotism and party favoritism, and attract few of China’s brightest citizens.

The fact is that China's battlefield capabilities are 100% untested and as Putin found out all of those beautiful numbers on papers doesn't translate to actual capability on the battlefield.

China's battlefield capabilities are highly suspect. They have had exactly one conflict in forty years and dramatically under performed in that conflict when they had vastly superior numbers, better equipment and launched a surprise attack. Any military that has not had actual battlefield experience is to a degree suspect but in no way could they be considered the second best army. Even comparing their nuclear capability is somewhat unclear because while they have the third highest number of nuclear weapons all are kept in reserve and not deployed.
