Michael J. Morell (born 1958) is the current Acting Director of the Central Intelligence Agency, his second time in that role, having served as Acting Director the year before, in 2011. In May 2010, Morell was sworn in as the Deputy Director of the Central Intelligence Agency, succeeding Stephen Kappes.[1] As stated, from July 1[2] to September 6, 2011, he served his first stint as Acting Director of the Central Intelligence Agency, following the appointment of Leon Panetta as Secretary of Defense. On November 9, 2012, Morell once again became Acting Director following the resignation of General David Petraeus, following an extramarital affair.[3] President Obama plans to nominate him as the Director.[4]
Morell is a native of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.[5] He joined the CIA in 1980. He was chief of the CIA's division on Asia, Pacific and Latin America.[6] Most of his work in the agency was devoted to Asian projects.[5] He also managed the staff that produced the Presidential Daily Briefings for President George W. Bush.[5][6] Before his 2010 nomination as Deputy Director, Morell served as Director for Intelligence, a position he had held since 2008. Before that, he served as the CIA's first Associate Deputy Director from 2006 to 2008.

This obsession with mormons that came about on DU after Rmoney's attempt at the presidency is bizarre.

(18,672 posts)BYU, so it's very likely. There are a LOT of Mormons in the FBI and CIA. I encourage anyone who thinks this is an odd question to do some research.

(373 posts)It's awfully appealing to recruit men who are less inclined to drink and womanize. Makes for fewer hiccups later.
If the Amish were game, they'd recruit them as well.

(6,199 posts)they wouldn't be recruiting from BYU. Those folks ain't the innocents they pretend to be, honor code or no.

(373 posts)Some Mormon conspiracy? Jesus. I swear this site threw Occam's razor in the trash or something.
In the intelligence industry, this is a well known fact. I'll leave it at that.

(6,199 posts)I just found the statement funny.
I assume they figure the kids will grow out of it, settle down and act appropriately (for their faith) once they leave college. Most of them probably do.

(3,179 posts)Seems like simple curiosity to me. And yes, Mormons are like people everywhere in that there are those who drink alcohol, have extra marital affairs, commit various crimes, commit suicide, etc. etc. etc. I guess I don't understand why you are so angrily defensive on their behalf.

(1,773 posts)to do a qualitative check, to identify them.
Conditions for a conspiracy
1) Two or more people sharing information
2) A third party who is deliberately deprived of that information
3) The conspirators gain something from the third party's ignorance
There's your checkist to identify a conspiracy.
Q: Was the Paula / Patraeus affair a conspiracy?
Apply the test.

(84,711 posts)that's why I did a search. I tried all the search engines and did every way I knew to try to find out. Is he a Mormon?
Maybe someone has better search skills than I do who can answer it.
(btw...I do search for a living...but, it's mostly medical and other company research, Stock Market stuff)
So...if anyone can find anything....it would be much appreciated.

(101,307 posts)We know he did not go to BYU (he went to Akron and Georgetown - the latter being a Catholic university, which is the best pointer we have to his religion). If you really think that most FBI and CIA personnel, even the ones who did not go to BYU, are Mormons, then you better provide some statistics on that.
