hemp is the fibrous material such as the stem that you make paper, clothing, and rope out of. The bud of the plant is what you smoke. Well you can use stems in your edibles but they are much more effective if you use the bud in those as well.

Hemp (the stem once broken down into individual fibers, a process which is a true pain in the ass and involves soaking the stems in a pond for days on end to dissolve the adhesive binding them together) has no psychoactive ingredients in it. You get all the wonderful flavor of the world's crappiest weed but no high to show for it.

to do well in bright, but indirect ambient light befitting the wide-open hazy conditions of the country, and the bright ambient light in Florida's understory of tall, often spindly trees (good for hiding the crop from aerial observation, as well). Temp and rainfall didn't seem to matter. I think this variety may have given birth to the regional reputation of "Gainesville Green." Other locales had similar usually obsolete names ("Maui Wowie" in Hawa'i).

In case no one's warned you; it can be quite psychedelic, and unpleasant in too large a dose.

Right under the proper level, very fun. An inch over, and you're wishing you had stuck to smoking. We're talking wall-flexing, connected-to-the-whole-universe-at-once, dangerous personality extension.

However -- strangely -- no matter how powerful the experience, once you get to sleep, you'll wake up in six hours feeling quite good. But you won't want to smoke again, not for awhile. Took me three days. I'm much more careful about dosage now, lemmetellya.

You still get some of the THC high but mainly you just get relief from the pain. How much high versus pain relief usually depends on how it was grown and what the levels of THC and CBD are. Any marijuana can be "paralyzing" if you take too much. I know a patient who has some pretty potent brownies and some of the patients eat too many brownies and end up sitting in the same spot for hours. But if you take the right amount you can still be mobile and lucid.

and other topical ailments. The leaf contains a significant pain-killer, and is cheaper than the bud. I understand that you cook it down like you would for brownies, then mix/blend the result with a good oil-type medium (for rubbing in). This can be self-applied on knees, joints, etc.

Good medicinal use for cheap weed.

Can you explain the difference between medical vs recreational pot?

I read an article where many of the shops say they are only going to continue to serve the medical community.

Isn't it the same stuff? Why would RXs even be used/needed once the retail shops are open???

as well as possible future insurance coverage for mj patients who need it medicinally. Recreational use is a side issue which brought many voters to the booths, as we saw. Of course it's the same drug, sort of like we used to use alcohol medicinally (A LOT) but it has lost favor with doctors since better therapies have emerged for the things they treated with alcohol. Alcohol is used both "medicinally" and recreationally by users. Presumably it will be the same for marijuana, although there will be doctor-prescribed marijuana too--it's just a lot more effective than alcohol for certain medical purposes, so of course we want both. And the VERY promising science of evolving more concentrated and refined types of canabinoid based medicines, such as in cancer treatment, is an exciting and hopeful possibility.

We basically want to end prohibition of the herb for any use. It's undoubtedly very helpful and historically relatively harmless.

And there is a bonus: We also legalize industrial hemp, which will be a bonanza for CO/WA farmers over the next 50 years, as sustainable fuels get more important and petrochemicals become more rare and expensive. You can make just about anything with hemp, better for ecology and cheaper than cotton or silk. Hemp is a godsend, the first cultivated plant--ever.

Tue Nov 13, 2012, 03:11 PM
Nov 2012

I obviously voted for it, even though I've never used and don't plan to, but by opening it up for recreational use, didn't we open it up for any use? (assuming the feds do not intervene)?

How would having shops just for medicinal use promote the possibility of insurance coverage for it? Either physicians will advocate for it or they won't.

And if any adult can use it, how would anyone lose access to it for medicinal purposes?

On edit: Thanks (in advance) and sorry if I am being thick-headed here.

edibles, tincture, thc crystal whatever, but mixed for cancer patients. The other kind of shop would differentiate with other qualities, such as intensity of the high, flavor etc. A recreational user wouldn't have a prescription, and so would get access to the non-medicinal types.

I suppose--I could be dense here too--kind of a mystery how this will all turn out ultimately. And I know where your question is coming from--if you aren't familiar with medicinal, it can seem a bit of a big deal over , well ordinary weed.

But they really are different. And we probably really need both kinds to be fully conscientious.

"The difference is in how its used"
"where it is purchased from"

and

"Medical is more potent and more pure" because the growers are more careful than those doing it illegally

doesn't help much. Now that recreational MJ is legal the differentiation goes away. Also, the potency issues go away since buyers can choose what they want rather than just what their "guy" has on hand.

If you want to sit on the couch getting baked, playing video games and eating Cheetos then you are looking for a Sativa strain. If you are looking to get "high" and still be able to function you want an Indica strain..

Indica is what I smoke when I am playing or writing music, Sativa is what I smoke when I want the world to leave me alone.
