(17,060 posts)Lawyers representing the plaintiffs announced Thursday they have filed papers to dismiss Hannah Ceh and Kyle Kruger as defendants in the lawsuit. The case against the six other defendants remains pending.
The terms of the settlement were not made public, but the two issued formal apologies for their involvement in the Trump Train, according to a press release from Project Democracy, the lawyers representing the plaintiffs.

(22,456 posts)that was sentenced to 14 days in jail and later in 2022 was the person disqualified from holding office under the 14th amendment.
https://www.npr.org/2022/09/06/1121307430/couy-griffin-otero-county-insurrection-fourteenth-amendment
A county official in New Mexico who was convicted of entering a restricted area during the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol must be immediately removed from office for his involvement in an insurrection, a judge decided Tuesday.
District Court Judge Francis Mathew ruled that Couy Griffin, an Otero County commissioner, is now disqualified from holding public office because he violated Section 3 of the Fourteenth Amendment by participating in the Jan. 6 siege.
"He took an oath to support the Constitution of the United States ... [and then] engaged in that insurrection after taking his oath," Judge Mathew wrote.
The decision against Griffin, who made headlines earlier this year by refusing to certify his county's election results, comes after some similar, high-profile Fourteenth Amendment challenges to incumbent lawmakers across the country failed.

(2,541 posts)That people like this were the people who had watched "Red Dawn" too many times and that used to be the case veterans (that I knew) who had strong America 1st pov's and that whole American exceptionalism thing but at heart they were good people. The current crop of conservative/republican members are not that they don't care about anything except power to do as they please and there is no end that wont justify the means for these people. The speed that the GOP has broke bad after decades of a fairly simple but solid unifying message and party direction in defense, fiscal actions, law & order, unbelievable.

(141,387 posts)They had a screenshot of the complaint (that I suppose would have lead up to this) -
The rest of what is out there is "social media driven", which would be concerning in terms of veracity.
I have no idea who this person is (although they have a blue check, but then people pay for that now), the video of this alleged arrest was tweeted out -

At first, I thought this man was a raving lunatic talking about human trafficking but he might actually be able to make a case for it.

I haven't personally seen the charges, but the party to the case states it is for 3 counts of harassment of a witness and 3 counts of trespassing.

It's a landlord/tenant dispute. Griffin is the landlord and, apparently a shitty one.
Interesting that three judges recused themselves from the case.

(21,894 posts)Cowboys for Trump founder Couy Griffin arrested
Couy Griffin, a former Otero County commissioner who was ousted after being convicted for his involvement in the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol, was arrested last week on harassment and trespassing charges in connection with a dispute between Griffin and a man who was staying at a residence owned by Griffins family.
Parts of the dispute between Griffin, the founder of Cowboys for Trump, and Dewayne Braithwaite were filmed and posted online by Braithwaite. He had moved from Maryland to Dusty Lane in Otero County, where he and Griffin had agreed that Braithwaite would make renovations in exchange for room and board, according to a criminal complaint filed in Otero County Magistrate Court.
Video footage of a five-minute fight between he, Griffin and another man was posted to TikTok.
Griffin didnt comment when reached on Tuesday.
According to the most recent complaint, Braithwaite had been staying at the residence in Otero County. His relationship with Griffin deteriorated and Griffin tried to evict Braithwaite from the property.
