Spectrum Cable up here in the great Northeast has a new plan. Pick 15 channels
that you like and that is all you get. You don't have to choose any cable news channels. I cut the cord four years ago because I didn't like paying for Fox News and the newer puke channels. This will cut back on money going to Fox automatically like it has been. This has been long awaited by many and I hope other cable providers do the same. Some may already have such a plan, but it is just now giving us the choice of where our money goes. Not to right wing crap.

1. Sounds to me like an indication
that pricing for each channel is reaching some kind of parity because whatever you choose the operator will make money, right? Unless it's a money-neutral growth marketing promotion were they raise prices later.

14. This is actually an interesting question and so I decided to do some sleuthing on Google
This site has some interesting data:
https://variety.com/vip/pay-tv-true-cost-free-1234810682/ Of we take the 15 most expensive cable channels and add ABC, CBS, NBC, and Fox, the average cost to a cable carrier in the year 2020 would be $29.71. So $29.99 for the first year sounds pretty close to breakeven even in the worst case. |

2. Does the cost depend on what you pick? Do you have to buy 15 channels? That's what
most people I know have wanted for decades. 15 would more than do it for me.

3. Pick 15 and local stations and PBS are free.
29.99 month for the first year. After that it goes up.

5. That's the plan we're on...
We mostly stream…hated paying for something we only used basically for sports. Called Spectrum to drop cable and keep internet. We were wondering if it would affect our mobile phone deal, 14 bucks a month per phone for my wife and myself one gig of data, all we need.
The Spectrum rep told us about the plan and we jumped at it. We had other alternatives for sports watching but this was far less money. No national news channels, couple local that we don’t even watch much. You get a month to make changes and get settled in using the Spectrum App, then you can change lineups in a year if so desired. |

6. We have that plan.
And no Fox Spews. Yay! I don’t even watch much TV except certain sports and PBS but Mr. D likes it for his drama shows. Fifteen channels is more than enough for us.

7. This is a great idea.
It's what people have asked for for years. Given how the cable companies have been bleeding subscribers, it's surprising they haven't offered it before many of them left. It would have been much easier to keep subscribers by offering this kind of flexibility than to try to get them back once they left.
We cut the cord (Spectrum) years ago, but I might check it out. |

15. They just never could fix our internet for YEARS.
Spotty through kids schooling online at home during the pandemic. Regularly dropped in ANY weather that was not calm and sunny. Sent multiple techs to “fix” the problem and it never worked. Of course, they were the only gig in town except satellite which was worse. We went to TDS fiber the minute it was available.

9. If that becomes available near me, we may go ahead and finally get cable
First due to budget and then just habit, I've not had cable since the early aughts. It was too expensive for too much stuff I didn't want. This model would finally afford us the ability to just cut out the 24/7 cable news and sports stations, and just focus on the dozen of so channels that would interest us.
Yay! |

25. If these channels have commercials I'm not buying it.
My wife and I simply don't see television commercials in our daily lives. We quit cable and broadcast television a long time ago.
We usually subscribe to two or three commercial-free streaming services, most consistently the lowest tier of Netflix, but we're not loyal to it. I don't think our adult children, nephews, and nieces pay any attention at all to traditional broadcast or cable television. All they care about is their cellphones and their internet connections. |
