Did CNN/Licht fuck up, hoping tRump will increase ratings/$$$$ and would save them?

Will it lead to even more people and companies to begin boycotting CNN? There may be a short term ratings boost (out of curiosity of viewers) but once the party is over will CNN lose more $$$ due to their lack of judgment? Will Musk and Twitter find the same outcome when they promote Fucker Carlson's new show on Twitter? Short term ratings boost vs long term disdain?

That's their job.

I don't understand how DUers come to believe that Trump is likely to come out of this "looking good," as the man has no filter and hurts himself every time he opens his mouth.

But memes and Tweets.

Blindly, without fact checking? He has that gotten to where he is by fooling/lying to morons who believe his every word. 7 years and he knows his cult base very, very well. He'll get even more $$$ from cultists after his "show".

The more he's exposed, the worse it gets for him.

He may grift off his cult. Populist politicians are very good at that sort of thing, even when they have no shot at getting elected. Its an ego thing. But Trump is unelectable.

Biden is going to beat him like a drum (again).

They usually average a half million viewers. Very small viewership. Considering there are around 250/260 million adults in USA - half a million watching CNN - not too many. Most younger adults getting all their news on social media.

Only the older Trump diehards will tune in.

They're not covering the news here. They are acting as the newsmakers.

Democrats got attacked on two fronts. That was Putin's plan, BTW, to deny HRC a win.

People have hopefully wised up.

Everyone but the most die-hard of cultists see through Donald J Trump's lies and criminality.

Biden will beat him in the electoral college.

Town Halls while Biden's speeches get covered, I'm okay. Trump Town Halls stack his appearances in specific places...... easy to miss.

No an 8PM Town Hall is not the same to press coverage of Biden during the day. I'm sure Biden will soon get a Town hall too.

I hate Trump and will not be watching. I'm sure I'm not alone.

It was pretty bad under Jeff Zucker and has only improved marginally under Licht. I think Licht understands the problems. It remains to see if he can fix them.

America could use a highly-trusted cable news network that covers events seriously.

What we don't need if for CN to be the left-wing analogue of FOX. All heavily-biased , all the time, without much outstanding journalism.

Good, hard-hitting, fact-based quality journalism helps Democrats more than hair-on-fire bloviating. Liberal democracy requires an educated citizenry. Not angry (and unreasoned) populists who operate on the extremes.

Despite the famed Moonves quote, news networks, cable or broadcast, did not see sustainable ratings or revenue increases because of TFG.
The 3 months of cable ratings increases in the early COVID period was the longest sustainable ratings boost. But, with 15-17% of the economy I shutdown (or massive slowdown) revenue increases were not sustained.
After the 2016 election, ratings generally retreated to prior levels as did the demographic distributions.
TFG as a moneymaker is more myth than reality.
CNN risks alienating more potential viewers than it gains beyond this one night.
My prediction is it will be considered a financial mistake.

No idea why CNN is doing this town hall. Obviously for ratings, but they're already circling the drain.

I won't be watching, and I hope Collins crucifies him.

No need for me to watch.

No doubt there are those here with fingers ready for the switch to the SHOW! And then there will be a million threads about what he did or did not say.

I suspect that the plan is destroy CNN as we know it and possibly rebrand it as a infotainment channel.
It is more important than ratings to ruin the brand as credible journalism. It will
be one less voice criticizing the Right Wing fascists. We will see how it plays out.
