Louisiana Secession Petition (whitehouse.gov)
WTF is wrong with these people? LA is one of the most upside down states in tax revenues to expenditures in the nation.

If they want to secede, I am all for it.
I didn't even realize you could start petitions on the Whitehouse website...I guess that's part of the president's initiative to make the website interactive. Very cool. |

We should stop sending federal tax money to those red state immediately and give people that want to leave and stay with the USA up to a year and a half to leave and resettle. The red states will be hit by pestilence after they leave, so will we, but the difference is that we will be able to pay for rebuilding.

Not all of us that are in red states want out. I think we will maybe have to pick a state or two to give up. The only way this works is if all the repuklicans agree to move to these states that we allow to secede.
Now we need to pick states. I give one vote to oust Missouri. anyone else? Please list which states you would prefer to give up if we can come to an agreement. |

24. See how crazy these morons are
They have become so very obvious. If we had resorted to this when Reagan or the Bushes took office, they would have accused us of treason.
They began this pattern during the Clinton 90s, demanding his impeachment, coming up with all sorts of assasination theories, and opposing any military actions during his term. Now it's taken on an additional racial tone, in that we happen to have a president who isn't pure lily white. They want revolution and secession now. The rethugs have really demonstrated to the rest of the world how uncivil a society we're capable of being, how racially charged our society is, and how opposed to human rights that one of our major national parties is. There is no doubt now. It has become apparent to all the world that a large segment of our citizens, particularly white males, feel absolutely entitled to everything of value this nation produces. They don't want to share, and now some of them are willing to destroy it all to keep from having to share it. If they can't maintain complete dominance, then they don't want to play the game anymore. |

If you look at the date the petitions were created, Louisiana was first, on November 7 while the Texas petition was made on the 9th. Texas is catching up though. When I looked earlier today, there were only 300+ signatures for Texas so that means 4k signed up since then.

44. Heading back to Cascadia Next Week
I'm returning to Seattle after seven years away, definitely looking forward to it, especially after the state elected a completely blue slate this time around, and legalized both gay marriage and pot (I'm neither gay nor a pot smoker, but I've always felt the discrimination against both to be silly).
The funny thing is that most of the people in Cascadia self-identify as such, almost as much as they identify themselves as Americans. In a way, this makes a lot of sense - it is 2500 miles from Seattle to Washington DC, roughly the same distance as London is from Moscow. Culturally, San Francisco, Portland, Seattle and Vancouver, BC share a common history, common values, and a similar climate. One of these years, when the burdens of union weigh too heavily, Cascadia will be an independent nation, though that may be decades in the future yet. |

49. I spent my first 23 years in the SF Bay Area...
I don't know anything about Cascadia, but if it doesn't extend to Marin, SF, and down into Monterey County of California, then Northern California should be it's own country. South of Monterey is a completely different country.
EDIT: I just checked the map I posted and it confirms this. Of course, being a native Californian, nobody had to tell me that Southern California (South of Monterey County) is a different country. |

60. This would count as sedition, right?
It would also count as abject stupidity...whatever would Opelousas and Breaux Bridge do without all the tax money Massachusetts and Vermont send them?
This is all so stupid...knuckleheads want to secede because Obama doesn't want them to continue in the family tradition of dying of some easily treatable disease, leaving half the family fortune to the hospital? Oh yeah, he might resurrect the assault weapons ban. None of the people up in arms over this would buy an assault rifle anyway - you can get a bolt action rifle AND a pistol for the price of an AR-15 - but poutrage is always fun. |

65. Louisiana which has not performed well since Right to work passed.
Wages not much more than minimum wages, turned red and they don't have a clue. The governor is cutting retirement to state workers, probably happy to see social security cut and thinks he is on his way to Washington. They should be kicking his butt. They hate minorities, cried like a baby wanting President Obama to come to the Gulf Coast after the BP oil spill. If he was ready for Washington he should have performed better in Louisiana.

66. Grant them freedom. Take back our federal tax money sent to LA. Citizens that don't want to
live in the free state of Louisiana have free passage to other states. After the people that want out of the free Louisiana leave, fuck the rest.

68. Great. Now we'll have room for Puerto Rico without having to add a star on the flag.

Apologies to our good DUers in LA, but I am so sick of this racist shit.

Yes, let's succeed and let the private interests of billionaires take over the state, just like segments of national government.
Nothing would change except for the fact that we'd be poorer than sin. Unless we're all growing sugar cane and working offshore there's not much we can do in the confines of geographical Louisiana. What a fucking mess. Though, if North Louisiana wants to succeed they can be my guest; that's just Arkansas #2 anyways. |
