Not even whether the shooter is at large (the 16th birthday party one) or when there will be a news conference? I hope these shootings are not another sign of how numb we've become or maybe they're not being pursued as aggressively because they involve people of color?

(28,518 posts)I was wondering if these mass shootings, especially the one at the 16th birthday party in Alabama, are being ignored by the media because the victims are not white?
There has been almost NO mention of this mass shooting where something like 20 kids were shot, 4 died, and some 9 are in "critical condition"... nothing about who did the shooting, nothing about the timeline, almost nothing about what happened at all.
The other conclusion is that this is in rural Alabama so not much in the way of immediate local TV reporters and cameras for the local and state police, etc to get their 30min of national fame.
But by now, some TV crew or other should be on scene. Almost nothing except a lone reporter from Montgomery standing in front the dance studio.

(16,871 posts)Dadeville is about 45% people of color. The people giving the presser were 100% not of color. I believe that the mayor is of color, but didn't note him at the presser.
There was no new information just confirmation of a few things. They didn't mention shooting or guns. No questions were allowed.
It was mentioned twice that Dadeville is a nice place and not to define it by this instance. Preachers were asked to reach out to those affected. There were going to be counselors at the schools tomorrow.
I also saw a CNN live bit from there. They interviewed the DJ.

(15,372 posts)said gun control would not change people's hearts. I honestly don't understand this. Do you say that about any other crime? For example, has anyone on the right ever said that bank robberies won't end until we change people's hearts so let's do nothing about bank robberies?
