You have to wonder if he'd had affairs in the military, and didn't think that being the head of the CIA is a different ballgame in terms of conduct.

to blackmail and whatever payment might have been demanded, it very likely would NOT have been money, more likely he could have been blackmailed with demands for security information.

talk about it until a book written when Eisenhower was dead and she was dying. Harry Truman reportedly said Eisenhower wanted to get divorced and marry her. His story was that General Marshall talked Ike out of it by threatening dire consequences.
