There is inertia that began in 1992....

I was out of state on election day (voted early) and the day before (still out of state) I had a revelation.

Now I don't claim to be a seer nor do I play one on television but this is what popped into my head.

If Romney wins tomorrow it will mean the end of the Republican party with a speed that will boggle the mind.

Now stay with me for a second.

Since Reagan's administration the swing has been toward, shall we say, fascism. After 12 years (this includes the reign of Bush the Elder) people started to push the pendulum back towards the left. After 8 years of pushing, the inertia has kept that pendulum in motion. The Republican's tried to stop it. To many it seems that they did with the placement of Bush the Younger into office. We all know that he did not win legitimately and that it was through a concerted effort on the Right through voter suppression, rigged voting machines and other nefarious methods that they maintained control. But the pendulum was in motion.

2008 saw the results of that inertia. People spoke in such volume that there was no way they could have manipulated the election. The same happened last Tuesday. We know they tried the same tactics to stop the motion but they were thwarted.

That's why I thought that if Romney won the death march for the Republicans would have accelerated. We are going to continue in the direction away from Fascism toward, let's not use the word Socialism but as I like to think, Humanism.

What President Obama achieved despite extreme obstructionism he faced during his first term is the telling sign.

My fear that Romney would somehow win the election set the imagination into motion. I mused that if Obama won we would continue to move in the right (correct) direction. People would see the benefits and so we continue. I mused that if Romney won, we would face unimaginable (unimaginable for the Republican edge voters) hardship and pain for 4 years. But come 2016 the backlash against the right would be so great that those edgers would jump on the bandwagon, move to the left and the right would be left with their 16% base, the 1% and the 15% totally ignorant. He would have been denied a second term if he even got the Republican nomination. The end of the Republican/Fascist party would cease to exist as they would have it since the days of Reagan.
They are finished, kaput; as Michael Palin would say, "An ex-parrot."

The inertia has increased and I can only see it continuing. Gay rights, health care, corporate regulation; hell let's just lump it into one word, Humanism.

Sometimes progress is imperceptible, like trying to watch hair grow. I am convinced that despite the current Right's attempt to dismantle the Humanism that FDR, Lincoln, the Founders and all other progressives have worked for, is going to continue.

and used it to slice us to bits. They were playing for keeps and to totally crush us. I don't think we could have survived four years of Romney and the billionaire boys club.

Fortunately enough Americans saw how dangerous they were. They had some crushing plans and it is why their defeat has been so crushing to them. We are still dealing with the policies of Reagan's reign. Then there is damage done by Bush and Cheney. We have a long way to go and need to keep them out of power.
