Gov. Ron DeSantis' takeover of New College of Florida puts $29 million in donations at risk
A former trustee at New College of Florida says 13 major donors told her they are canceling more than $29 million in planned contributions since Gov. Ron DeSantis began transforming the school, a huge financial blow to the small college.
Charlie Lenger served on the New College board until Jan. 6, when DeSantis replaced her in a dramatic move that saw six conservative board members appointed with a mandate to transform the college. The newly appointed board, after an emotional meeting Feb. 28, voted to abolish the office handling diversity, equity and inclusion programs at New College. DeSantis previously pushed through legislation governing how K-12 schools in Florida discuss race and gender identity and recently prohibited an Advanced Placement course in African American studies. Lenger served on the New College Foundation board for 35 years, helping to bring in donors, and has been a longtime donor herself. A Sarasota, Florida, resident, she founded a plant-leasing company in 1981 that grew out of her senior thesis at New College. https://www.yahoo.com/news/gov-ron-desantis-takeover-college-181028890.html Heckuva job DeShithead.

3. This is what has to happen, donors have to pull money from FL universities.
AA athletes need to stop signing with FL schools.

7. New College is not a football school.
It’s a small liberal arts institution with an illustrious history of academic freedom and intellectual inquiry, not to mention diversity in the student body long before that was common — especially in the South. That’s why De Santis is attacking it.
It’s basically like a bully beating up the class “Einstein” and breaking his glasses while the jocks and cretins guffaw. All part of boosting De Santis’s cred as a defender of the poor down-trodden white folk under siege by the Woke pointy-headed intellectuals. |

8. Never said it was, and near as I can tell De Santis wants to destroy all education.
Though I am sure the fascist wants to start with whatever school he can smear on whatever liberal "travesty" he can latch on to.
An uneducated populace is one that does not understand the value of their own labor and is ignorant and easier to control. DeSantis is another conservative intending to install a christofascist theocracy in this country. |

13. As I have stated before, it ain't happenin'.
Find me a 19 year old star athlete that is more interested in "making a political statement" than he/she is about NIL and the chance of making it to the NFL (insert major league sport).

9. And that was precisely the plan - to destroy the university from within.
And as an added bonus, it sends a message to those who dare speak out against the cult - "don't fuck with us". Desantis is a fucking terrorist.

10. Needs to be way more. This is small change for a college these days
Many more donors need to speak louder and join in this effort to strangle this board.
Let the new well-paid president and his new RW board minions work doubly hard to raise funds going forward. Might keep them from devising more fuckery. If nothing else, let them sweat funds from their RW groupies so they can’t spend their dollars elsewhere |
