My suspicions are that Democratic leadership has come to the conclusion that it would be more politically advantageous to delay and give excuses and wait until Trump self implodes, and enough R's realize he is a dead end, and so those disgruntled Rs will join forces with Ds to de-platform Trump. Not overtly join them, but start the process from their end. With the result being that moderate Rs and Ds can move on and fight each other on other things. And the Democrats don't have to deal with the burden of being the party that is first to prosecute a former President....and all the baggage that will bring them, not to mention the perceived injustice and retribution from the other side.
