Walgreen's disgusting history, and why a boycott is not a bad idea.
(not just about their current stance on women's health care, although that is reason enough on its own!)
I decided to go look into walgreen's history today, after an odd remark about it and walmart. Although I cannot copy and paste, or link, for a handy, quick reference, go to walgreen's entry in wiki. The acquisitions are staggering (maybe walmart learned from them??), but the sheer number of complaints, lawsuits, fines, settlements, judgments, etc., is just incredible. If I had any belief in the idea that they might see the light on woman's health care, I was disabused of that delusion tonight. One fascinating note about this oh-so-law-abiding company: one of their largest and moxt profitable expansion periods occurred during Prohibition, when they sold "prescription whiskey", frequently from under the counter.

5. In another thread, there are a number of contracts that will be reconsideted.
And I saw where CA is, according to Gov. Newsom, on its way to becoming the fourth largest economy in the world, up from sixth.

6. It may cost an arm and a leg
to live here and I have a very tight budget but I figure it pays me back in other ways so it probably evens costs out, financially speaking. The ideals of Dems are clear and are definitely represented in our state.

8. All I know of them is one friend worked there for years and made $11/hour and all the
employees were told that that number was the cap for retail. So they were telling her they were never going to pay her more money. And I bet the CEO's and other execs are multi-millionaires or billionaires.

13. I've boycotted them for years & will continue to do so
An rx for generic anti-inflammatory was $47 at Walgreens.
Same rx $7 at CVS. Decades ago... In addition to their other issues, they have a rep for gobbling up old farmland to put their shitty stores on. ![]() ![]() |

14. Unfortunately, some people can not boycott
I get my prescriptions through my employer.
They have a policy that maintenance drugs must get through the mail or through Walgreens. Not a third choice. |

16. Then there needs to be a campaign to get your employer to change policy
Nothing will change! The racism, fascism, misogyny, hatred and white supremacy...NONE OF IT...will change, unless and until we make racism, fascism, misogyny, hatred and white supremacy unprofitable to the corporations, businesses and individuals that fund and enable it.

18. We all understand that some people are simply not in a position to boycott,
whether walgreen's or walmart or whatever. But we do what we can to change things for the better.

15. I have some hearsay, but if true the Biden should take action
A very woke military mom that I work with said that their Tricare insurance through United Healthcare only allowed their prescriptions to be filled via Walgreens. That may be her most affordable option, but the restriction to Walgreens seems in conflict with the Biden agenda/mission.

17. I have a friend who has Tricare, and she gets most of her scripts at our King
Soopers. But not sure who she gets her Tricare through. But perhaps it is different in different areas?
But, agree that such should definitely be looked into. |

23. My United healthcare Medicare drug supplement is labeled Walgreens, But works elsewhere too.
The policy was less expensive and I thought it would only work at Walgreens when I bought it last year before this. Although some Rx may be cheaper, my the plan does work at my local Kroger pharmacy. If I were on some expensive drugs I might have to go to Walgreens, but did not seem worth it on my generic BP meds.
Anyhow, you might check if your policy will work at other pharmacies because this was not clear until I ask some very specific questions. |
