They let Conan go and kept Traitor Jay. They fired Ann Curry from Today while keeping Matt "Sominex" Lauer. I don't think it's coincidental that this once-great broadcasting company is tanking in the ratings for broadcast networks. Isn't it time that they did something smart?

(83 posts)Then whined about still having good ratings and how he shouldn't have to be off the air. And let's not forget how he stole Carson's seat out from under Letterman in 1992!

(292 posts)He lost his spot because his show sucked
Though I do agree he should have brought Tonight back to New York, where the audience is knowledgable of issues other than breast implants.

8. Right. Like the Bay Aryans
are going to vote for Hetch Hetchy restoration. They're environmentally friendly right up to the time it affects them. I hope I'm wrong but I just don't see this happening.
As an aside, John Muir tirelessly fought against the raping of Yosemite's second Valley but the sentiment was for San Francisco at the time because of the big earthquake.

72. Spoken like a true Bay Area snob
Can you possibly be MORE offensive? Not that I'm ever going to convince you of anything since you seem to be entrenched in your BIGOTRY but there happens to be a LOT of great people here. We're currently working our ASSES OFF registering voters, making calls and walking precincts against the recall. These are people from "ugly" Peace Fresno and the "ugly" unions and the "ugly" Democrat clubs and committees. You know, the same ones who came out by the hundreds protesting against the war?
The next time you bitch about "ugly Fresno" I might suggest you don't do it with a mouthful of food!
Don't bother replying, you're ass is on permanent ignore.

(1,437 posts)Do you know nothing about how Networks work?
Leno was told that when his contract was up, they were bringing Conan in to take his place, but agreed to soften the blow by giving him a new show in an earlier time slot. When both shows failed, NBC panicked and asked Leno to return to the tonight show.
It's fun to take sides, blah blah blah, but this is all about a network deciding what's best for the network.
This is about Leno being a backstabbing douchebag: He would still be playing strip clubs in Peoria if David Letterman hadn't brought him to prominence by having him on Late Night 31 times. And how did Jay repay Dave?
RichGirl
(4,119 posts)Both Leno and Conan are millionaires! Both have had more opportunities than the thousands of other comedians who are better, who are still playing little clubs. Leno did wrong...but the whining Conan did was nauseating.
I don't care which one is right or wrong...I care if they are funny. Although I watch Letterman...Leno tells jokes and makes me laugh. Conan thinks making facial expressions is funny...never watch him.
With all the suffering in the world...please don't waste sympathy on millionaire comedians!!!
WeekendWarrior
(1,437 posts)Leno owes his fame to Johnny Carson.
And let's face it, if YOU or I or anyone else had been offered the Carson slot, we would take it, no matter who helped us out. That's the kind of offer you simply don't say no to.
You act as if show business is some kind of gentlemanly profession. Guess again.

(83 posts)Maybe treason!
Science Geek
(161 posts)Donald Trump called for people to march on Washington D.C. and put a 'stop' to Obama's re-election. I can think of only one sure-fire way to accomplish that goal. The only nuance about Trump's clear call to treasonous insurrection was his omission of the word 'assassination'.
Definition of TREASON
1: the betrayal of a trust : treachery
2: the offense of attempting by overt acts to overthrow the government of the state to which the offender owes allegiance or to kill or personally injure the sovereign or the sovereign's family
K-Matt
(83 posts)Don't get me wrong: I definitely think Trump has broken the law, but, to me, it's more of an "incitement" offense than an "action" offense, which is why I lean toward charging him with sedition.
onenote
(42,700 posts)And you obviously are too young to have marched against the war in Vietnam. A lot of us who protested that war carried signs calling for Revolution. We sang songs with lyrics like those in Jefferson Airplane's "Volunteers" (Look what's happening out in the streets Got a revolution got to revolution Come on now we're marching to the sea
got a revolution got to revolution Who will take it from you We will and who are we We are volunteers of america)
We were called traitors too. Which side of that fence would you have been on?
PS - I agree wholeheartedly that NBC should dump Trump. But urging a business to drop an entertainer because they behave in a way and say things that offend a great many people is different than saying that he's guilty of "treason" or "sedition."

(19,926 posts)He said the terrorists that attacked on 9/11 were brave - even if they did a horrible thing - and that caused an uproar and ABC felt they had to cancel his show.

(21,925 posts)I've never watched it, nor any reality show. I'm probably the last person a network should be listening to for advice but it seems to me that the concept of Trump's show is a boring one-note, at least that's how I've heard it described. If you see one episode, you've seen them all. I've never watched it but that's how it sounds to me.
K-Matt
(83 posts)And let's face it: "Reality TV" is a contradiction in terms.
Blasphemer
(3,261 posts)I'm sure the ratings are only a fraction of what they are when the show started but still makes everyone involved enough money to keep it on the air. You are correct about reality tv in general. I used to watch them but at some point it becomes the same thing regurgitated over and over again. Back in the early 90s when "The Real World" was the only show of its type around it was a novelty. Then, the networks figured out how much money they could make without having to pay any talent.

(14,061 posts)But I did like Brian Williams' comment the other night...paraphrasing here...Trump just passed the last exit to relevancy on his way to crazy.
Trump is holding on to his ever-fleeting fame with bleeding fingernails. He'll say any damn thing to keep himself in the media spotlight, no matter how batshit it is.
