I have to say, the latest shooting in Half Moon Bay
is hitting me hard. Not only because it's in my backyard (California's Central Coast, or God's Country as Steinbeck called it) but because of the victims. They were migrant farm workers. This is a group of people constantly taken for granted and taken advantage of. They live in the shadows, and yet without them we would literally starve.
Their lives are incredibly hard. Here in California, we just came out of a period of torrential rains and flooding. These farmworkers and their families bore the brunt of it because they often live in substandard housing. We in California have strict gun laws and we try to protect each other. But until we have uniform gun laws in this country, we will never prevent these tragedies. ![]()

1. At some point most of the US will have PTSD from gun violence.
Either people we know or just the trauma of seeing all the deaths around us.

4. Every mass shooting is a free marketing event for the gun industry.
The response is ALWAYS buy more guns. And it always works. They don’t even have to pay for advertising - just piggyback on the next shooting.

11. I was thinking of that after I posted
It is a better description of the enabling from all the people aiding abetting every murder, every gun death.

This was very well stated, and good to recognize who these victims were.

17. Thank you.
The local news in my area has broadcast some excruciating details. It's hitting our community hard, but it is shining some much needed light on the plight of these workers and the need for national gun laws.

5. We need so much more than gun laws.
We need to educate everyone on the value of laws and the harm caused by abuse of laws via loopholes and wealth.
I've come to believe that most of our problems stem from "trickle-down-economics". We also need to force the news media to be more responsible. Or pay for their abuse. |

7. It's only the mass shootings that we usually hear about.
IIRC, that means there had to be at least four people shot. How many instances are not taken into account that involved three or fewer people that we don't hear about?
If I wasn't already living here, I would never come here. This place is becoming a third world country. Thanks to Rethuglicans and their Billionaire Overlords. |

9. Exactly. Mass shootings, at leadt the list I check, is 4 or more dead or wounded,
including the gunman. The daily toll of all the others is enormous.

16. Mother Jones data counts mass shootings as three or more victims since 2013
In January 2013, a mandate for federal investigation of mass shootings authorized by President Barack Obama lowered that baseline to three or more victims killed. Accordingly, we include attacks dating from January 2013 in which three or more victims were killed. (Any analysis of the frequency of mass shootings using our database should account for this.) Our original analysis, which covers cases from 1982-2012 with four or more victims killed, follows below. The cases we’ve documented since then using the revised federal baseline reaffirm our major analytical findings.

18. Mother Jones data is about three or more killed. It does not include the
wounded, or the gunman, from what I could see.

as well as fatalities.

10. We had 22,900 murders in 2021
So that’s almost 63 murders a day. And that’s way down from the 70s-90s! We’re a very violent society, awash in guns.

20. Also there are judges in California that need are gun humpers we need to get rid of also.
e year or two ago, a judge in San Diego district dismissed illegal automatic weapons charges on a Jan 6 nut job extremist. Can't remembrer if he was Oath Keeper, or a 3 percenter, or nazi boogaloo. they're all the same to me really.
These sympathetic judges need to be removed. |
