I have to say, the latest shooting in Half Moon Bay
is hitting me hard. Not only because it's in my backyard (California's Central Coast, or God's Country as Steinbeck called it) but because of the victims. They were migrant farm workers. This is a group of people constantly taken for granted and taken advantage of. They live in the shadows, and yet without them we would literally starve.
Their lives are incredibly hard. Here in California, we just came out of a period of torrential rains and flooding. These farmworkers and their families bore the brunt of it because they often live in substandard housing. We in California have strict gun laws and we try to protect each other. But until we have uniform gun laws in this country, we will never prevent these tragedies.
