Obamacare as another Democratic Legacy that the Republicans won't ever be able to undo

Another good thing about this election. It preserves Obamacare which, once it takes full effect, will be widely seen and appreciated as a significant change for the better. (It's not perfect, mind you. I prefer single payer. But it's a significant improvement over the past status quo). And the Republicans will once again be cast as the party that tried to stop it, repeal it, who no doubt will always be trying to undermine it. Unlike Medicare and Social Security -- which has been cast by the Repugnants as ponzi schemes that primarily benefit the old at the expense of the young, or medicaid -- which they have tried to cast as another "giveaway" to the underserving poor -- Obamacare if it works as planned, will be a universal benefit that fundamentally alters our relationship to the healthcare system for the better.

If it works as planned, it will eventually become as cemented in our social life as medicare and social security are. And the Repugnants will once again be cast as naysayers who want to turn things over to the profiteers.

It's definitely safe through 2017, and by then, like you said, it will be part of the American landscape.

I said just like ss and Mcare. People will like this. They are on the wrong side of everything.

but sadly we may see a "Democratic" president be the one who does so - he has refused to take SS & Medicare off the bargaining table. Seems like only a "Democrat" will be able to get away with it, because members of his party won't fight him on it (though of course they would scream bloody murder if a Rep tried to do it. See warrantless wiretaps, indefinite detention, assassination w/o due process, etc - all EVIL policies under W but okay now)

And yes, raising the retirement age or instituting the chained CPI are CUTS to SS.
