The Hartmann Report: Why Doesn't America Have $10 Broadband?

https://hartmannreport.com/p/why-doesnt-america-have-10-broadband?utm_source=substack&utm_medium=email

'...When Donald Trump and former Verizon lawyer Ajit Pai (who Trump elevated to chairman of the FCC) ruled that the internet was no longer regulated under common carrier rules of Title II (as it had been for a few brief years under Obama), they kept you and me locked into the company that owns the wire that comes into our house. We have no choice...

President Biden’s choice for the open slot on the FCC, Gigi Sohn, is on record wanting Net Neutrality, which could result in ISPs being redefined back to being common carriers. So are the two sitting Democratic FCC commissioners. But they are blocked by the two Republicans, who oppose Net Neutrality...

Call your two senators at 202-224-3121 and ask them to approve Gigi Sohn for FCC Commissioner during this final lame duck session of Congress.'

I am stuck with poor copper land line service from a single provider or worse satellite service. Nobody is going to bring fiber optics to rural areas unless the are compelled to. We need a modern REA to deal for communications.

Russia launders its propaganda through American political influencers, so we should always question those that have been identified.

Biden's net neutrality plan is NOT in Russia's interests. It's now critical to the functioning of free democracy. It would make the people happy. And a free internet would seriously impede RW efforts to limit our freedoms. Notably, Russia has interfered with the FCC before to encourage RW repeal of net neutrality. (Russia's government of course does not allow it there.)

Sohn's appointment has been held up in the senate, but we just had a big game change in the midterm elections when we gained a 51st Democratic senator. If not done before, after January 3 our new senate majority will finally confirm a strong proponent of net neutrality to the FCC.

There are small rumors that Biden could choose a new nominee, but at present Gigi Sohn is still the one.

The issue of net neutrality is in good, committed hands with Biden, in any case.

And Putin's political agitprop agents can butt out, just in case that's what's going on.
