Jim Greer rejects plea deal

Prosecutors have offered former Florida GOP chairman Jim Greer a plea deal, one that would require him to plead no contest to all six felonies he faces, but he's rejected it because it includes prison time, according to his attorney.

Greer, 50 of Oviedo, is charged with fraud, money laundering and four counts of theft. Prosecutors allege he secretly set up a shell company then hired it to handle fund-raising for the state party and used it to siphon $125,000 into his personal bank accounts.

Greer insists he's done nothing illegal, that the money were legitimate commissions and that he was singled out for prosecution because he favored Charlie Crist in a race for the U.S. Senate while many senior party leaders backed Marco Rubio.

An evidentiary hearing is set for 2 p.m. tomorrow in state circuit court in Orlando. It's not clear if Greer will be there.
