As I suspected Governor Younkin of Virginia

consulted with Larry Arrn President of Christian Nationalist Hillsdale College before trying to alter school curriculums to exclude Martin Luther King, eliminate reference to holocaust and Nazis, also calling indigenous people first immigrants. Governor Younkin has received a fair amount of pushback from academics and historians along with concerned parents.

That time no major Dem legislation had passed in Congress, and that the Dem governor of NJ, who was supposed to win by 10+ percentage points fell far short.

And while DUers and others knew “who he was”, he ran as a “moderate.”

A low point for either party is hating a whole state / lacking empathy for a state because of their election outcomes.

Whether it is our leaders or hundreds of posters on a website, people from vulnerable communities notice when a political party abandons them. It's not a good look.

Decent people and Democrats exist by millions in every state.

There's too much of this in US politics.

I don’t remember that coming up in ANY coverage of his campaign, but then again, I’m not in Virginia.

And evidently he's still talking in vague terms so you can't quite put your finger on who he really is.

So, the lesson here, I think, is - if they're not CRYSTAL CLEAR about what they think and what they believe, and what they plan to do, REJECT THEM.

You can only make a decent judgment if they give specifics.

Indications from his actions before the election. Since then, he has done other things consistent with his being more MAGA than moderate: in addition to the education BS pointed out in the article, he railed against CRT and set up a snitch line for parents to report any teachers who made their kids uncomfortable (later closed down); took anti LBGTQ actions; proposed restricting abortion further; campaigned for 15 MAGA gubernatorial candidates, most of whom lost, etc.

They ran through my sympathy/understanding/patience supply a LONG time ago.

They’ll have to earn it back over time and demonstrated improvement in behavior. In Catholic school, we learned about “outward signs” that allowed for what you might call a human-level “dance with the Deity”.

I need to see outward signs from the Republicans. LOTS of outward signs that indicate they’re waking up and coming around to sensible give-and-take politics, not the greedy, voracious, take-no-prisoners marauder ethic that seems to permeate the mindset and loudest bully voices in the GOP.

I keep hearing about the more “moderate” members “working from inside” supposedly toward more cooperative positions and solutions. But all we seem to hear is the howl of packs of rabid hyenas. It’s awfully hard to try to do business with, or reach any consensus with, packs of rabid hyenas.

This bullshit about parents having a right to choose what their children learn is nothing but a racist, homophobic, transphobic dog whistle.
But they ate it up. Interestingly, I have not seen minority children and their feelings discussed. So if parents have a choice, I don’t expect to see these people object to black parents’ objections about what they want their children to learn.

There are a group of students here in GA, pushing back against this nonsense. They are appalled that so many things related to anything other than Eurocentric history and ideas can not be discussed. I take heart that these kids are smarter than their parents and grandparents who voted to uneducate them.

I just wonder how these parents expect their children to succeed in life. Wait, I know. Strictly on the basis of white privilege. Especially white male privilege. When life does not turn out the way they thought it would, then blame the minorities. It’s the immigrants stealing your job, affirmative action, robbed you of getting into the school you wanted, “femi-nazis” ruining your life when you can’t be a misogynistic jerk.

Stop condemning whole states corrupted in red that eliminate possible Dem wins with vote suppression and throwing voters off of roles. Texas and Florida and Georgia like other corrupted GQP states would have much different results if every one could vote and that vote counted. Until we fix voter rights theses idiots will continue to be appointed. Michigan has a blueprint to take our states back from these assholes rewriting history, and pushing Sharia law of their warped ass view of the BuyBull. North Carolina is not as fucked up as our appointed legislature. Got a lot of oxygen depleted pea brains here but guns and Jebuuuus have a tight grip. You’d think mouth breathing would offer more oxygen to their brains. But a mouth packed with tobacco and spit cuts off the flow. But if there is no brain to begin with, oxygen flow has no effect. I feel your pain Virginia. So much work to do.
