Why is IOWA open so much later than every state around it? I LOVE IT, it makes so much sense but what's the history behind why it is?

If anyone knows I'd love to know!

Why does Iowa have such a different system from the states around it... I guess is my real question. It seems to be the state which stays open the latest (which is awesome) but why? Who created the system? Is it a system other states should emulate?
