Being midterm, it wasn't a Blue Tsunami, but it definitely was a Blue Wave
However, elections are now 24/7/365. Can't lose focus and can't let the Democratic coalition in Congress fracture. Blue Dogs and Yellow Dogs must keep the eye on the prize.
And we must force the end of the filibuster in the Senate.

2. I predicted 3-5 pickup in the Senate and break even in the House
I over-estimated the intelligence of voters in OH, NC, and WI.
Apparently they love their crooks as much as the people here in China love their brutal, tyrannical dictators. |

8. Did I say or even imply it wasn't a big deal?
It was a wave. If we got two more pickups in the Senate and did the same, it would be a Blue Tsunami.

10. I like to think of it as a Blue Wall rather than a wave.. "Red Wave hit a Blue Wall" I think was how
a headline was worded the day after. Can't remember which newspaper. but I love that descriptor.

16. Me too, actually I think that it went like this: Red Wave CRASHED into a Blue Wall.
there, I think I fixed it.

14. This was a major victory for President Biden and the Democratic Party
There are two major advantages to the Democrats getting 51 seats.
1. The Democrats will have majorities in all committees and can issue subpoenas. Currently each Senate committee have an equal number of republicans and democrats on the committee. One cannot issue a subpoena with the vote of the majority of a committee which is why the senate cannot do any major investigations. 2. Speed up nomination confirmation process for judges. Since there are an equal number of republicans and Democrats on the judiciary committee, the vote on a good number of judicial nominees have been ties and had to go to the full senate to break the tie. That is one reason why VP Harris has casted so many tie breaker votes. Link to tweet Having 51 senators is a big deal. Link to tweet |
