We waited over a half hour in line. She didn't mind. An Obama sign waiver was gracious enough to give her a flag, so she spent the time waiving it and singing (over and over, mind you) "Red, White and Blue, Red White and Blue, Your flag and my flag is Red White and Blue."
If you have a young child who has the ability to stand reasonably still and has a chance to take them with you to vote, please do. Let them know that it is an important right and one that should always be exercised.

(45,319 posts)and I am always grateful to them for teaching me to be an avid voter and Democrat! Everytime I vote, my parents are with me in spirit. My Dad would have loved Barack Obama. Mom too, but Dad would have been over the moon for him.

(2,391 posts)It was gigantic (to me!) and the curtain wrapped all the way around the machine, but I could walk under it. I remember all the switches waaaaaaaay up there on the machine. I had no idea what was going on, but I knew we were choosing people for something and it was important. I couldn't wait to grow up and vote, too.
I know for a fact it was when I was four because my mother kept telling me while we were waiting our turn in the school gymnasium, that one day soon, I would be going to this school. Less than a year later, I started kindergarten there. The gym felt very familiar!

(43,157 posts)You connect the two arrows together next to the candidate's name.
I was a little too nervous about having her connect the arrow for the President, but I let her do it on some of the ballot initiatives.

(885 posts)My mom took me to vote with her when I was a child, but my first memory of this is when Bill Clinton was running.
I remember the voting machines, large metal booths with a pull-lever and a curtain, were at my elementary school. She let me punch all the buttons and pull the lever.
It's always stuck with me.
