Oaf Creepers founder Stewart Rhodes plans to testify at his seditious conspiracy trial, his defense

Oath Keepers founder Elmer Stewart Rhodes plans to testify in his own defense as he stands trial in the highest-profile prosecution stemming from the January 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol, his lawyer said Monday.

As opening statements began at trial, Rhodes' lawyer Phillip Linder told jurors that they would hear from the Oath Keepers founder "himself about who he is." Linder said Rhodes had offered earlier this year to testify live before the House committee investigating the January 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol, but he was denied.

"He's going to do that, ladies and gentlemen, in this trial," Linder said.

Linder's remarks followed a more than hour-long opening statement from prosecutor Jeffrey Nestler, who said Rhodes and other Oath Keepers "concocted a plan for armed rebellion" in the weeks leading up to the January 6 attack on the Capitol. Nestler presented jurors with messages in which Rhodes told Oath Keepers members that they "must refuse to accept Biden as a legitimate winner."

Translated: He wants to pontificate about how mighty and righteous his cause is. Instead his dumbassery will be on display for all to see.

I agree with you. And now he’s locked in. If he changes his mind, and doesn’t testify, the jury is going to feel that they were lied to, and wonder why he DIDN’T testify. The obvious conclusion will be that doing so would hurt him.

So testify, and reveal yourself to be a narcissistic asshole, or don’t, and reveal yourself to be a liar.

7. Good grief

This will be like Ted Bundy acting as his own counsel.

These narcissists think they're the smartest people in the room, and that they can just dazzle us with their brilliance into seeing things their way.

He doesn't realize that the US Attorneys are:

a) as smart as or smarter than he thinks he is;

b) had the discipline and willpower to succeed within the system--unlike him;

and

c) that those who know the rules of the system the best tend to win the day in court. If you haven't practiced real criminal law in a decade (or ever), you are highly likely to get shellacked in court for this reason.

At some point, Rhodes will find himself cornered and outmaneuvered, he'll know it, and then we have a high chance of getting a moment like this:

It sunk Bundy. It'll sink Rhodes.

8. I will share my non-professional legal advise

No charge.

The voice in your head that says "No jury will convict me!" is always wrong.

10. He really doesn't have a choice.

Apparently his defense is some cockamamie idea that he believed trump was going to invoke the insurrection act so he was “standing by” to help.

So his defense is going to be how he “felt” while committing these crimes. This will require his testimony.

I wish federal courts allowed cameras.
