A friend just texted me a copy of a letter that a friend of his on the western slope just got (sorry I cannot copy it). As of today, no coverage for abortions, sterilizations, implnts, tc. Just as a reminder, these procedures are legal here in Colorado.
SCL health controls the only hospital in Grand Junction.

I worked for a Catholic hospital. Insurance did not cover reproductive healthcare.

(20,648 posts)They have a directory of "Services" and they have "Women's Health" but not a word about family planning or contraceptives, either.
The pregnancy page is all, "Planning for baby" but nothing about decisions, questions, choices. It is clear they expect you to carry that baby to term.
Their values:
We reveal and foster God's healing love by improving the health of the people and communities we serve, especially those who are poor and vulnerable.
Vision
Inspired by our faith, we will partner with our patients and communities to exceed their expectations for health.
Values
Caring Spirit - We honor the sacred dignity of each person.
Excellence - We set and surpass high standards.
Good Humor - We create joyful and welcoming environments.
Integrity - We do the right thing with openness and pride.
Safety - We deliver care that seeks to eliminate all harm for patients and associates.
Stewardship - We are accountable for the resources entrusted to us.
and just a little bit of their huge page on spiritual care:
Our spiritual care team is here for you
Our spiritual care team is available any time, day or night, to serve patients, family members, associates, volunteers and physicians. You may request a visit in the hospital. You are also invited to attend services including celebration of the Eucharist, Sacrament of Reconciliation, distribution of Holy Communion and Anointing of the Sick.
Visiting clergy
Spiritual care is an important part of the healing process. You are welcome to invite your regular clergy member to visit you in the hospital. If your clergy member is unavailable, our chaplains can provide support or contact another spiritual leader from your faith tradition.
Our chaplains
Our chaplains are professionally trained to offer spiritual and emotional support during difficult times. During a visit, the chaplain may ask about you, your story and what matters most to you. They may ask how important spirituality is to you and which rituals and prayers you find meaningful. Chaplains can help you cope with fear, loneliness, grief, health issues, relationship difficulties or other life challenges. Our chaplains can be present with you as you communicate with other members of your care team.

(32,445 posts)Dr. Krista Ault, a general practitioner at La Plata Family Medicine and former director of family medicine at Mercy, said some forms of contraception, such as vasectomies, have been off limits for as long as Centura Health has owned the hospital.
But during Aults tenure at Mercy from 2014 to 2020, practitioners were allowed to prescribe patients other forms of contraception such as IUDs and birth control medications as long as they didnt outright say it was for birth control.
Basically, when you needed to give somebody birth control you could, but it was sort of an unwritten rule that you should probably code it as painful periods or endometriosis or something like that where there was a medical reason besides just needing birth control, she said.

What does SCL stand for in healthcare?
the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth
In the 1960s, the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth did an in-depth examination that led to a renewed commitment to healthcare a new delegation of authority, and ultimately to the formation of the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth Health Services Corporation (SCL/HSC), now known as SCL Health.

---------------
The 46% year-over-year jump in net income for the Utah-based nonprofit was spurred by more than $4 billion in contribution from its merger with SCL Health that closed in April, according to recent financial documents.
Intermountain and SCL entered into a merger agreement to combine their health systems in December. The merger was completed in April, creating a $12 billion system and expanding Intermountains reach into Colorado.
In its first financial filing since the affiliation, 33-hospital Intermountain, which also manages hundreds of clinics across seven states, reported revenues of $6.5 billion in the first six months of 2022, up 25% year over year.

(20,648 posts)Some dispatchers send you where there is room, others where your doctors are grouped, or insurance is taken. If you or someone you love might need emergency help, best to do your homework ahead of time and develop your list and contact information so you know what to do. In other words, if you can risk being driven by a family member to the ER of your choice, don't call an ambulance.

(27 posts)When they came calling to offer their hosted / shared EpicCare EMR at a much discounted price tag, my then boss the CEO wasn't quite pleased as he foresaw operational micro mis-mgmt down the road for the Critical Access Hospital in Craig, CO. Where I served as the Interim CIO. After much discussion the Moffat County Board decided not to acquire the EMR and merge later. I was privy to many a conversation and raised my objections to the loss of autonomy which allows the hospital to taylor the system based on needs vs what's dictated.

(27 posts)Just learned that SCL and Intermountain Health merged. I recall the development /implemention of GE Centricity EMR product at UCSF, IntMH and U of VA in my early career as a pharmacy informaticist. Back then GE was an improvement over the legacy Meditech after IDX was acquired in order to get a toehold in the market. EpicCare now has overtaken all vendors capturing nearly 40% of the market share. So it makes perfect for all 3 to be on the same platform. Where patients experience seamless care regardless of location.
