DeSantisís cruel stunt highlights the GOPís hunger to change the subject. Itís part of a struggle over which issues will dominate 2022 and which party will play defense. The GOP is playing a lot more defense than it expected to a few months ago.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantisís cruel migrants stunt is part of an unusually intricate battle over which party will set the agenda for the 2022 midterms.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantisís cruel stunt of flying Venezuelan migrants to Marthaís Vineyard ó now under investigation by a sheriff in Texas and the subject of a lawsuit filed on Tuesday in Boston ó is widely seen as a play for Republican votes in a possible 2024 presidential run. But it is also part of an unusually intricate battle over which party will set the agenda for the 2022 election, and which side will be forced to play defense.

The fact that this messaging struggle is happening at all is a strategic victory for Democrats, even if they still have a lot of defending left to do. Midterm elections are typically about the party that controls the White House. This gives the opposition a big offensive advantage.

But even with inflation as a cudgel, it hasnít been that easy for the GOP. Thanks to the Supreme Courtís decision on abortion, Donald Trumpís high profile in the news and the right-wing radicalism of many of the partyís candidates, Republicans are having to scramble far more than they expected to. The anti-Biden, anti-inflation message of so much of the GOPís advertising is no longer enough. Democrats have found ways to be aggressive, even when theyíre on defense.

So DeSantisís cynical move was, as much as anything, an effort to push aside abortion rights, an issue central to the underdog campaign Democrat Charlie Crist is waging against him.

1. Battle cry of this election: Roe your vote, up and down the ballot!

I've been saying it since Dobbs and will keep on saying it. It's THE issue that both illustrates the fascist agenda of GOP and unites everyone not radicalized -- women and girls are not government-controlled incubators.

The radicalized Republican party is determined to curtail voting rights until only the voters they like can vote, destroy public education because educated voters vote Democratic, control women because white evangelical males hate them and extremist religion trains the peasants to believe anything, deregulate corporations because big money for campaigns come from there, raid Social Security and Medicare because desperate people work harder, and consolidate their one-party minority rule by judicial fiat.

Roe, Roe, Roe your vote
against theocracy!
Republicans revoke your rights
and kill democracy!
