Okay football fans...have you ever heard of Redskins Rule?

The Carolina Panthers beat the Redskins in Washington on Sunday, which should translate into a win for Mitt Romney on Election Day, if history is any indication.

How do we figure? It's the remarkably accurate Redskins Rule that forecasts the result of presidential elections.

Here's what the Redskins Rule means: If the Redskins win their last home game before the presidential election, then the incumbent party retains the White House. If the Redskins lose, then the incumbent party is voted out.

The Redskins Rule has been correct 17 of 18 times.

I'm not a football fan and I had never heard of this. It's hogwash, of course.

There are plenty of others, I don't know why the Redskins one is the most important meadowlark5 Nov 2012 #10

Until Bush I, the "candidate with more syllables in their last name" rule was a classic, as was the "taller candidate" rule.

With so small a sample space, there is no limit to the number of coincidental correlations.

If people really want to believe these superstitions, then look at the others out there.

Scholastic Kids Vote has predicted the president with accuracy all presidential elections but 2 since 1940. Obama won this year.

The Spirit of Halloween mask rule. They have predicted accurately every single presidential election since 1996. Obama won this year.

The 7-11 cup poll. This is their 4th presidential election and the past 3 election they have been predicted accurately. Obama won this year.

So there are plenty to choose from. I suggest choose one that makes you feel better than the only one that makes you feel worse.

And these three at least involve people with thoughts and opinions and vote - unlike a football game that has nothing to do with any election at all
