Yes, abbott is an ass and a piece of human waste.
But nothing helps him with his base in Texas like having the mayors of Democratic cities whine about his tactics. First the whining doesn't fix the problem. Second, it only makes the Neanderthals of Texas laugh and slap abbott on the back and give him more money.
They could have turned this around on him. Suppose they said:
"We would like to thank abbott for spending Texas money to send these poor people where they can get some decent care. We understand that you don't feel like you are up to the task, and applaud you for admitting your incompetence. We will give these people the care that you can't, the care that America can deliver when racism and bigotry aren't your principal values. We just wish that you had consulted and worked with us to be ready for these people. We know that foresight and planning aren't things you can handle (I mean look at your electrical grid), but we will use our acumen to deal with the problem. (Oh, and thank you for the jobs that our people will be filling to do this. We would have thought that Texas would have liked to have those jobs.""
Then from Biden: "Since Texas has admitted their inability to handle their duties as Americans for the asylum seekers, we will be diverting money from Texas to New York and Chicago and Washington DC to deal with this. Texas tax payers seem to want to foot the bill for busing rather than receiving Federal Funds to use in Texas.)

(11,862 posts)in border towns is not fair for citizens of those towns who are being overwhelmed with the needs of thousands of migrants. The federal government should already have been helping to move them to other areas, and perhaps they are, but if so they need to talk about it. And youre right, Abbott is getting praise for these actions. Theres a reason some border communities that traditionally votes for Democrats switched to Trump in 2020. The people who live there are fed up with their communities being turned into migrant shelters to the detriment of the detriment of their own lives.
I hope youll send your ideas to the mayors of DC, NYC, and Chicago. Theyre very good suggestions.

(12,202 posts)We need the help up here. This is just another political production failure by Abbott. Nothing more than a staged event for the base. New York could absorb thousands of buses of people and nobody would notice. Welcome all.
Jakes Progress
(11,177 posts)It is not a "political production failure". I live in Texas. abbott is making money and getting votes from this here. It is myopic to say that it is only a staged event for the base. Yes. It is a staged event for the base. And because of the reaction from these cities, that staged event is doing exactly what abbott wanted. He doesn't care if it looks like a joke to you. You can't vote for him. He is getting the assholes that vote for him fired up with this.
Your last two sentences should be what the mayors are saying.

(12,202 posts)Because what I read up here is they were all laughing at Abbott. Texas cant keep the lights on and they have money for this stunt is popular too. We can't help how pukes frame it. We just see it as silly. Spending Texas money on showmanship should make Texans whine. Besides we are very busy with our Canadian border trying to keep people coming and going. Joe should divert money Texas is wasting to other border states that don't squander it.
IMO.
Jakes Progress
(11,177 posts)That will hurt him so badly in the race agains Beto. That's because the republicans, who are a majority in Texas, care so very much what Democrats in New York and Washington care about their candidate.
You live "up there". You don't get to vote in Texas elections. I live down here, and I don't care what the media in New York says. Here in Texas, the polls show this as a win for abbott. Down here, they don't mind that he spent $12 million of their tax dollars to bus asylum seekers. As long as it pisses off libs and yankees, they love it.
What part of helping to keep Texas red is hard to understand? You keep saying how "up here" we don't like abbott because of this and think he is a fool. How many of those "up there" are going to vote in the Texas election?
abbott and the republicans screwed up our electric grid and he blame it on green energy. Texans saw through it.
abbott sent the Texas National Guard to play cards by the border for months saying it was protecting the wall. Texans saw through it.
Then he pulled this stunt. The mayors bitched about how tacky abbott was and moaned about how much money it was going to cost them. Had they told the press how happy they were to take care of the problem for the poor inept governor and how they welcomed their new neighbors, Texans would have gotten it. Instead, he gets the win.
Do you think AOC should stop being so liberal because the voters in Waco are pissed off at her? When some red-necked asshole turns purple with rage and spews hate at AOC because of her work, do you think that New Yorkers don't laugh and giggle?
Politics is a national game, but voting is local.

(12,202 posts)We don't really care what Abbott does or says about anything. Our Mayors are not going to help Texas see behind the curtain. Pull the curtain back yourselves and see the joke we all see. Maybe go after things Abbott doesn't do for Texas. Pave some of your dirt roads or improve the power grid. I live in a small Village in New York and our alleys are even paved. Spend money helping his people instead of trying to be clever owning the libs with childish stunts and statements. Women may help Texas rid itself of the haters leading you now. They are pissed all over the country. I hope the Blue tsunami hits Texas big time and your good people can join our forward movement. Peace to you Jake. Hang in there.
Jakes Progress
(11,177 posts)You finish your selfish rant by saying that you hope the blue wave hits Texas big time. But your arguments and protests about the OP prove just the opposite.
The point was never to make the joyful Democrats of New York love abbott. It was to suggest that New York could help us bring the blue wave to Texas. Every time you bitch about what abbott has done or giggle over our problems, you help elect abbott. How can you not see that. Did you just get your knickers twisted when I suggested that the whining that the New York politicians were doing was actually whining?
Turn it around. If I go by your arguments, then you would be perfectly happy when Texas billionaires spend money to spread lies to defeat liberal candidates in New York. You would welcome redneck help in getting trumpsters elected in your city council. A little political savvy and intellectual honesty would be appreciated. Either you want the blue wave to hit Texas and want to help it happen or you don't really.
(PS. I know rural New York. It is lovely there. I visit my grandson who works there frequently. It is not the utopia you suggest though. Just as there are urban centers of liberal democracy in Texas, there are New York assholes with tfg signs dotting the rural highways of Apple country. I'll be there seeing family this fall to watch the leaves. I won't visit Troy or Buffalo this winter when the Lake Effect snow closes things down.)
Politics is national. Voting is Local. Help if you can. I've donated to AOC. How much have you sent to Beto?

Jakes Progress
(11,177 posts)I assume that is because you are without any defense for attacking an OP that you clearly did not understand in the first place. And began your inanity with a petty sophomoric attack. I did not alert on you, and I haven't done anything alert worthy. I have replied to each of your disjointed posts with an attempt to initiate conversation and argument. You never replied to any of my questions or addressed the issue of how New York whining was aiding abbott. Not once. Instead you made inane statements like your first sentence here. Just what the hell does something about chasing stunts have to do with any of the exchanges here. Thank you for ducking out of the conversation. I welcome your support for getting rid of abbott. I wish you would adopt an attitude that would actually help to that.

(10,291 posts)Abbott literally could not have made his point any better than the reaction of these mayors. The situation could have been a lay-up, but instead they found themselves echoing the sentiments and actions of Texas Republicans.
It begs the question, if you have the same complaints and enact the same policy, what makes you different? That you're using nicer words to describe the situation and the emulated actions?
Are nice words really the only difference people care about? Keep the policies, just euphemize it all.
Lots of inadvertent crux arrival happening in all this.
