I didn't like the way they treated Princess Diana, but that doesn't mean I am not sorry that QE has passed. It's been a terrible year, a terrible week, and now this.
One memory I have, is of the Queen when one of her grand children was being born. She was out horseback riding at the age of 92, or 93. Of course, she was being ponied, but I still admire her for that.

(81,789 posts)A elder in my area, she passed about six or seven years ago, in her 90s, who was a rancher. Her family was the concessionaire for YellowtoneNP's Hamilton stores for nearly a century. She was a philanthropist yet she was very humble and approachable, and very wealthy. I knew her riding partner who said she rode right up until a year before she passed.
Miss Ellie.
She gave me a big hug when she met me and thanked me, because I had been the cook at the senior center named for her, for the a nice roast beef lunch when she came to visit. I was given fair warning of her visit and advice as to what would make her day regarding the entree. Oddly, we both ended up as subjects in the same book about five years after that.
