loan forgiveness is going to trash the democrats' chances in November? She was all up in arms because Biden (RIGHTFULLY) said MAGAts are trending semi fascists. There's nothing fucking "soft" about it! They are mostly white "christian" nationalists, and they're shooting democrats all over the place!
I can't stand how she was fishing for how badly Joe Biden is doing.

(8,935 posts)Alex must be trying to impress the overwhelming majority of the republicans that make up the board of directors. Poor Ron Klain was trying to back-step her relentless right wing push, but she just kept coming.
Tim Ryan needs to explain the college loan forgiveness for all the massive interest that so many people have had to pay to go to college. The students didn't just have to pay for school: their loans amount to WAY more than what they originally borrowed, and even Ohioans can understand getting sucked under for debt.
College should be free.

What is heard and repeated often become reality for some people even if it is a lie. Wagner is not the only news host that does this.

She was pushing against what Biden & the hundreds of democratic representatives and senators have done with a very accusatory posture and message.
Ron Klain was speechless for a minute there, and VERY much on the defensive.
questionseverything
(9,996 posts)She was giving background and softball questions so the Biden administration could get its message out

(2,230 posts)Her questions twisted Biden's words and had me wondering if she had listened at all to what he said.
Klain did well, but the whole interview came across as confrontational and misleading on the part of the host.

(2,230 posts)I really liked him in the evening slot. He sometimes covers for Lawrence on Friday night.
Alex is ok, but no reason why Velshi should not have that slot if he wants it. They replaced Brian Willuams with a female host, could certainly have a male host in the 9 pm slot. Velshi has gravitas, empathy, and graciousness.
As someone said a week or so ago, maybe Velshi prefers the schedule he has now. He's free to do book tours, host various forums etc. His intelligence and genuine curiosity shine through. Oh well. ..
I also think that Alicia Menendez has been doing very well whenever she substitutes for vacationing hosts.

There's a woman and her husband in North Carolina that have always been rightwing republicans, and the Roe decision and the republican whining about the college loan forgiveness has turned them both into democrats.
This couple are in their late 60's.

(96,882 posts)I can think of a lot of political problems that loan forgiveness creates.
BComplex
(8,935 posts)I would love to hear them. I'd especially like to hear "a lot" of political problems that loan forgiveness creates.
You mean, it might make selfish rightwingers whine?
Abolishinist
(1,771 posts)I'm not a big fan of the forgiveness, per se. In the end I could give a flying F, but to me the ENTIRE program from top to bottom has been out of control for a very long time. My overall view is pretty much in line with Mr. Ryan.
"Instead of forgiving student loans for six-figure earners, we should be working to level the playing field for all Americans including an across-the-board tax cut for working and middle-class families, medical debt cancellation, targeted forgiveness for essential workers and more opportunities for student borrowers to refinance their loans, and investing in apprenticeships, universal community college, and workforce development and training programs so all Americans not just college grads have a shot at success," Ryan added.

(8,245 posts)A very small percentage -- we're talking you can count it on one hand -- will go towards those making """six figures,""" and even among those, there are plenty that live in high COL areas where """six figures""" doesn't go nearly as far as much less than that does in a state like Ohio.
In a year where Democrats are doing surprisingly well in the Senate, and even Democrats in purple states are running as heavy favorites, maybe Ryan should look within and question why he's one of the few Democratic Senate candidates that is performing poorly, ESPECIALLY when you consider how terrible his opponent is.

(9,233 posts)while some students turned debt slaves are less fucked.
Education costs have skyrocketed because of the availability of student loans.
But many students find their education not worth the cost and the outstanding loans hobble their lives.
Posted earlier:
>>The root problem of student loan debt is the money grubbing student loan "industry"
and the way above inflation of higher education costs to consumer.
I have an MBA from Haas Business School (Cal, otherwise known as UC Berkeley), Class of 1987 (graduated age 34).
I paid iirc about $1200 per year in student fees / tuition for 2 years or less than $2500 total.
Look at current costs for Haas, a public university.
http://mba.haas.berkeley.edu/admissions/costs-and-financial-aid
Current cost for student fees and tuition alone is $67,424 for a CA resident or about $135,000 for the two year program.
University more than ever is a filter to divide the haves from the have nots
