Christo Grozev
@christogrozev

Russian media report of a new airbase fire in Crimea today, this time on the military air-field at Hvardeyskye (Gvardeyskoe). It housed 12 SU-24М and 12 SU-25СМ planes and was integrated with the Russian Navy.

Novofedorivka air base was targeted due its strategically important air assets. Its sister air base at Gvardeyskoe lies just 30km east & is crucial to 🇷🇺 ops in south 🇺🇦

It is home to the 37th Composite Aviation Regiment's Su-24Ms & upgraded Su-25SMs.

Moscow admits Crimea military depot explosion caused due to sabotage
Aug 16, 2022
DW News

Snip....
An ammunitions depot has exploded in Crimea, a week after similar blasts rocked a Russian airbase on the annexed peninsula. The Russian Defence Ministry originally attributed the blasts to a fire at a military warehouse, but now says the damage is the result of sabotage. Local officials say two people were injured, while another two thousand were evacuated as a precaution. Ukraine has neither confirmed nor denied its involvement in the blasts in Crimea.

Earlier this month, major damage at a Crimean military airfield drew international attention. Russia attributed that explosion to ammunition detonating. Some experts argued that an attack was more likely, judging by available satellite imagery of the damage. Ukraine did not claim responsibility but did seek to cast doubt on Russia's version of events.

Russia annexed Crimea early in 2014, soon after a pro-Russian government in Kyiv was toppled in a popular uprising.
