It was not OK to attack our Capitol.
Those that did so should be held legally accountable.
There was no justification for attacking the most sacred place of our democracy.
No one should be above the law.
Everyone involved in the attack upon our Capitol should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
Believing a lie does not make it true.
This is the narrative that should be widespread if the day comes when the Justice Department might have to indict very popular figures who committed criminal acts.
The time to start is now.

Repetitiously, repeat the narrative over and over until everyone has heard it. Don't save it for the last moment.

(85,398 posts)Do it early and relentlessly so THATS what nestles in and has time to take root.
kentuck
(113,320 posts)...it needs to be kept simple and a few salient points need to be repeated over and over to be effective, in my opinion. It is easy to get distracted when talking about January 6th.

Abortion
Conservative activists have spent almost 50 years focused on one goal above all others: overturning Roe v. Wade, and making forced birth the law of the land. To achieve that goal, theyve waged a decades-long campaign to pack the federal judiciary with hundreds of far-right extremist judges. READ MORE

The GOPs Grooming Obsession
Last year, the Republican operatives made critical race theory into their go-to bogeyman in order to push their agenda into our schools. Now, were seeing an increase in perverted homophobic and anti-trans smears being deployed by the right in a similar pattern. READ MORE

Perhaps that behavior is a signal that theyre REALLY obsessed with it
for many reasons, all of them sinister.

(113,320 posts)...it is easy to talk about the Secret Service, or Rudy, or Powell, or the electors, or the secret meetings, or the phone calls to GA, or Eastman, or Stone, or the J6 Committee, or Merrick Garland, or a hundred other legitimate subjects, but it has to be synopsized to a short list to be effective, in my opinion. Otherwise, it is all scattered.

probably not. We need to win the midterms or January 6th goes bye bye and they spend the next two years investigating Biden, Hillary, and Hunter-Priorities.
Demsrule86
(71,070 posts)was...and now time to bring up other issues that will gain even more voters.
kentuck
(113,320 posts)I think it may be short-sighted, but that is just my opinion.

(71,070 posts)state, of course, we risk losing the midterm. I believe the best way to protect democracy is to win the midterm and reelect Biden in 24.

(85,398 posts)Notes for the New Week:
Campaign season is close at hand! Well be working to persuade voters to see things our way, locally, statewide, and beyond. Sharp tools and smart psychology are our best friends!
REPETITION, for example:
For too long, Democrats and the Left have let the Right claim freedom when they stand for nothing more than being authoritarians, and taking away our freedoms! And so what a freedom message does is - it allows us to both clearly articulate exactly what the other side is doing (activate loss-aversion, which is an incredibly potent form of political persuasion); AND say what were FOR. And to do all of that with a single frame that you can repeat over and over and over again. And that repetition is really key, because once a message is more familiar to listeners, absent the content, regardless of the content, it is more popular and more persuasive just for being familiar.

(113,320 posts)I would have to disagree with you.
Demsrule86
(71,070 posts)kentuck
(113,320 posts)And if you are on TV and someone asks you about the attack upon our Capitol on January 6th, will you ignore it and answer with your "issues"?
We need to set the narrative to hold people accountable that attacked our democracy. This does not prevent us from talking about any of the other issues.
Demsrule86
(71,070 posts)kentuck
(113,320 posts)In my opinion.
I don't think most Democrats want to forget about what happened on January 6th and just sweep it under the rug. They want accountability.
Demsrule86
(71,070 posts)that sort of thing...it can be mentioned and will be, but it should not be our entire focus. Fetterman is up 11 points running a factory Town campaign about jobs and such...He is also relentlessly trolling Oz...we need to win the midterms. Other rust-belt candidates are running factory town campaigns as well.
I don't think campaigns focused on 1-6 will work. Tim Ryan is up. And I promise you that 1/6 focus will not help him. We need to win this midterm. I think there are issues that are better for the campaign. And while no one should forget 1/6, it can't be our focus if we want to win.
Demsrule86
(71,070 posts)kentuck
(113,320 posts)...and you answer with a response about Roe and Social Security. Sorry, that does not make any sense.
Demsrule86
(71,070 posts)January 6th. But do the voters care as much? You will never get people who are not on board...but Roe might get them or LGBTQ...

(113,320 posts)Is that what you believe?
So if a prominent Democrat is on TV and they are asked about the attack of January 6th, they should ignore it and talk about your "issues"?

(38,726 posts)WHY? ....HERE IS WHY??????????????????
....MANY NON- BELIEVERS, AND PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT SURE...NON SURERS
you don't think so? check the polls. Sometimes truth must be repeated over and over again. Lots of examples in
history...too many to list. You name them, I'm out of energy. (Time to rest..

(113,320 posts)I hope whatever we win in the next election is worth keeping.
Demsrule86
(71,070 posts)that winning the next two elections or God forbid not...will tell the tale if this Republic survives...remember if we lose... they can do anything they want. The only antidote to what we are facing-out and out treachery- is to win big...grind them into the ground. I understand and I respect your point of view though. I do.
kentuck
(113,320 posts)Or do you think he appealed to emotions, ridicule, and adolescent character attacks?
Be care about putting too much stock in "issues". Especially in these times.
Also, if you win the world and lose your soul, what have you won?
Demsrule86
(71,070 posts)what a big deal that is around here. People went from good-paying jobs to working at fast food joints when the steel mills and auto plants closed. I heard Democrats talk of 'retraining' and cringed...that is a dirty word around here. Every election all parties came to Ohio during multiple campaigns and came with big promises...and then nothing was ever done...more factories closed and more people lost their jobs.
And consider Trump barely won. Also, this is not a presidential election...we are talking midterms. This is more like 2004 than 2016...Bush won the midterm and Roosevelt won in 34...we have had an earthquake in terms of really terrible rulings from SCOTUS...that is the threat to Democracy and why we must win. Roe is not just an issue for women...there is a hell of a lot of emotion there.
kentuck
(113,320 posts)...and I think Tim Ryan is doing a good job communicating with the people of Ohio. But that does not mean we have to forget about the criminals that tried to overthrow our government. I am only saying there is a better way to communicate it, when asked about it. I am not saying we should not talk about any issue that you mentioned.
As if we don't talk about it all, the Trumpsters will all vote Democratic. Surrender is not the answer.
