Incident concerning Obama 'Nazi' poster in Amherst, NH.

My friend of close to 40 years is Dutch. She is 72.
As a little girl she lived under Nazi occupation in the Netherlands.
Her war time stories would curl your hair.
Her father and grandfather were killed.

Yesterday she went to her local post office.
In front, by the flag pole, she saw a woman holding a poster that showed Obama with a Hitler mustache.
The poster declared "Obama - Nazi - Socialist"
As she was exiting her car, a man parked next to her and got out holding a similar poster.
She said "Young man! I find that highly offensive. I've lived under Nazi occupation. Obama is no Nazi."
And he said ..."Have a nice day" and joined the woman holding the other poster.

She went in and did her business.
Then she drove down the street to the police station.
Told them what was happening and why she was offended by it.
They said they'd deal with it.

She drove back to the post office and parked.
In a few minutes the postmaster came out and told the poster holders to leave.
They did.

Now...maybe they had every right to demonstrate on federal property.
But just because you may have the right, doesn't make it "right".

I am so proud to be her friend.
She don't take no crap off NO body!

was the guy who had the giant Trojan horse on his lawn and a sign "US out of the UN." It may be gone now, but it was there for years.

Ironic, as after all, it was the United States of America who was one of the founding fathers of the United Nations, in the aftermath of WW2, FDR, and Truman with a few more, deiced it could be a vice thing to do it better than WW1, when the League of Nations kind of flunked after a while...

I guess the fellow you is pointing to, doesn't know what the Trojan Horse really meant - or what the United States of America decided was the smartest way to solve the aftermath of a horrible long war who turned the whole world to ashes..

7. They don't even know that Fascists are far righters, not lefties.

Hitler just used the term socialist to confuse people. He was a dictator, as right as can be, without a royal dynastic line.

Few Dictators tend to have a long dynastic line... And don't confuse a dictatorship, with a crown head - most of modern kings and queen have very little power, outside of what the Parliament decide prudent . Even in the few states where the King have absolutely power, in reality they have to play a power game of making different fractions want to have "him" as their king... If the king is on a loosing fraction, he might end up dead..

16. It's worse than that. Hitler used "National Socialism"...

Socialism was very popular in Germany. The other main parties were the Democratic Socialists and the Communist Party. What Hitler did was to claim that under National Socialism that only "true Germans" should benefit from Socialism. He railed against the idea of immigrants coming into the country and sponging off the system (Sound familiar?).

Hitler's Brownshirts used to raid political meetings for the opposition and beat them with clubs. There were street riots between Brownshirts and Communists.

After Hitler got into power the leader of the Brownshirts criticized him for going back on his promises to break up the big estates and hand the land over to poor farmers. Hitler took it as a challenge to his power and had him arrested and executed for treason and then replaced the Brownshirts (who were no longer needed and were an embarrassment on the world stage) with the SS.

In reality Hitler HATED Socialism and met with the wealthy on the side and got their backing. Many with former royal appointments got positions in high places and government was run by the rich, for the rich.

21. Hitler accidentally joined Nazi Party

Very good summary Spit. Way back in 1920 Hitler was a military spy sent to one of their earliest meetings. He went off on one of the speakers in a tirade. He was invited back as a speaker and became their leader soon after that. He said he would have rather started his own party because the Nazis were socialists. But under him their membership took off and it was too late. Goebbels became disillusioned by Hitler in 1926 saying he wasnt socialist enough. They had a talk and Goebbels considered him a god after that willing to follow Hitler to the grave. Hitler was getting big money from a secret source(s) so he was a corporatist fascist even then.

22. I didn't even cover the fact that his early followers were basically what we would consider to be,..

....racist white supremacist redneck chicken farmers. Others were veterans of WWI who felt they could have won if they hadn't been "stabbed in the back" by Liberals in Berlin who they claimed buckled under and surrendered early and were to blame for the humiliating defeat and subsequent economic hardships. Forget the Worldwide Depression and Stock Market Crash of 29, to them it was all the fault of Liberal Policies and Jewish Bankers. These people lived in rural areas and didn't see the people starving in the cities during WWI. As a matter of fact, when Hitler was arrested for treason the judge happened to be a WWI vet and was sympathetic to him and gave him a lenient sentence.

This is why when Hitler took France it was a huge source of national pride to those veterans. He forced France to sign the surrender in the same railway car that was used when Germany signed their surrender in WWI. That railway car was taken as a trophy back to Berlin and put on display. When the Allies started bombing Berlin it was moved to a safe place hidden under trees and in the closing days of the war the SS torched it to prevent it from falling back into the hands of the French.

Nor did I cover Hitler's rise to ultimate power through the use of fear with a false flag arson attack on their equivalent of the Capital Building. The invasion of Poland was to free it's people form the communist terrorists in power who they claimed were responsible for the fire. It just happened to also give Hitler access to Poland's vast coal fields for his military industrial complex.

That whole "Never Forget" wasn't just about extermination. It was about recognizing the threat of a charismatic leader using fear of terrorism, racism, religion, militarism and patriotic nationalism to rise to absolute power where loyalty to the leader and his party is considered to be more important than loyalty to your fellow citizens.

It fascinates me that the current repub/christofascist/teabaggie party plays with words in the most brazen dishonest ways. So similar to Nazi party strategy.

I wonder what will happen when that old fart finally croaks. I wonder if his followers will mount a power struggle or all commit mass suicide, it's that insane a cult.

He annoyed my aunt, he wanted to date her in high school. She said he was awful even then.

13. Here's my question

What if people starting joining them, also holding large signs that said:

Ignorant and racist (with a large arrow) ... kinda like those t-shirts that say I'm with stupid

That, too, would be freedom of speech, wouldn't it?

I'll be joining you soon. Ran into a friend who just retired and he's moving to Iceland. Why there I asked. He said, "well the bankers there tried the same bullshit they do here everyday and the people said hell no and put most of them in prison. They have courage unlike the sheeple here." He's leaving soon. I've been contemplating Costa Rica. This racist country is sad.

And she would give them a detailed graphic description of living under the Nazis, while whaling on them.

23. Both were responsible for deaths in the millions.

WW2 was 50-70 million.

In Iraq between March 2003 and July 2007 Bush was responsible for over one million.

Opinion Research Business (ORB) poll conducted August 12–19, 2007, estimated 1,033,000 violent deaths due to the Iraq War. The range given was 946,000 to 1,120,000 deaths. A nationally representative sample of approximately 2,000 Iraqi adults answered whether any members of their household (living under their roof) were killed due to the Iraq War. 22% of the respondents had lost one or more household members. ORB reported that "48% died from a gunshot wound, 20% from the impact of a car bomb, 9% from aerial bombardment, 6% as a result of an accident and 6% from another blast/ordnance."[23][24][25][26][27]

That doesn't include US casualties, of course.

Good thing we got all those "weapons of mass destruction" - oh, that is right!

There weren't any.

Psychopaths, the both of them.

20. I hate those assholes SO much. Takes everything in me not to kick their table over...

I've avoided going to the PO because I could not stop myself from saying something. Usually I say "don't u guys see the irony of standing on PUBLIC, tax-payer funded, property to protest?" Or the other day when I was mailing my ballot, and yelled "Hey look!! I'm voting for Obama, fuck you!" then drove off. I hated them when they did it to Bush, and I still hate them.
