Just days after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned the constitutional right to abortion, Colorados Western Slope Rep. Lauren Boebert said churches should direct the government, not the other way around.
Boeberts comments, made Sunday to a crowd at the Cornerstone Christian Center in Basalt, take aim directly at the separation of church and state.
The church is supposed to direct the government. The government is not supposed to direct the church, Boebert told the crowd, which applauded. Im tired of this separation of church and state junk.
It was not in the Constitution, it was in a stinking letter and it means nothing like what they say it does, she continued.
The first-term, far-right congresswomans comments are disturbing, several political experts said and were likely inspired by recent U.S. Supreme Court rulings. Richard Collins, a retired constitutional law professor at the University of Colorado Boulder, called the statements unsurprising.

The Pentecostal church that I grew up in says women cannot wear pants. Does boobert think that church gets to make the decisions?

(22,338 posts)Which church? Hers? Why does her church get to tell everyone else what to do? Catholics and Protestants don't even have the same versions of the bible!
What is she going to do with churches that don't agree with hers? Imprison their members? Exile them? Torture them until they covert to her church? Declare war on them?
There were some very bloody wars in Europe over just these questions. Separation of church and state was meant to ensure these wars do not happen in the US.

I cant imagine what it is like to know so little and have no ability to understand that there is so much you dont know.

(11,884 posts)She wants her religion to base law on, not other religions. Is it time then for religious institutions to be taxed then? What about the separation of church and state? Hope this idiot loses her primary tomorrow, then gets indicted and locked up.
