Really glad I voted for him. |

2. The AR-15 is deadly enough, but the military is replacing it with a far more lethal weapon.
The new gun will use a 6.8mm round, about the same as a 270 rifle, and will be much more dangerous.
It fires a round at about the same feet per second, but a heavier bullet that has about 2X the energy of the M16 it replaces. It has a much longer range, and is much better at penetrating body armor. If gun manufacturers are allowed to sell this gun to the general public, the body count from mass killings will go up dramatically. If you think police are reluctant to face down a killer with an AR-15, just think how much more reluctant they'll be if they know the guy has one of these new rifles. There needs to be action to ban this new rifle as soon as possible. That and the new 10mm sidearm that is already in use. The pistol is a replacement for the venerable 45 caliber pistol that has been in use since 1911. Again it's more deadly, and more accurate than it's predecessor, and shouldn't be allowed in the hands of the public. https://www.armytimes.com/news/2021/10/11/the-armys-m4-m16-and-saw-replacement-is-on-its-way/ |

10. I must be confused. Can you 'splain to me why DNA had to be used to ID those kids in Uvalde?
You use words like “anemic” and “pea shooter” and stuff — and I am confused.

13. Its the way the bullet "flies". Thats why its different than larger rounds.
The round "tumbles" after entering a body, where a 9mm or .45, for instance, would go pretty much in a straight path. the tumbling is what does so much damage. Its "safer" for a bullet to go THROUGH you than bounce around inside.

15. Without getter too technical
The lighter weight of the bullet makes it easier to destabilize. At high velocity the effect if that destabilization on the bullet is catastrophic which in turn affects whatever was hit.
At a lower velocity the destabilizing effect occurs but with less stress on the bullet so it stays generally in one piece. The wound is therefore much less traumatic. The result is the .223/5.55 can deliver devastating wounds at point blank distance but is "anemic" at battlefield/ hunting distance by comparison with larger calibers. |

16. Sure
It’s a comparison between standard, traditional hunting rounds and the .223.
The .223, in comparison to those common rounds, is under powered and anemic—especially when using military ammunition (full metal jacket). Military style FMJs will pencil through a target and do minimal damage compared to frangible defense / hunting rounds. That isn’t to say the .223 isn’t deadly—it surely is, but when people imply that the .223 is somehow doing unfathomable damage to the bodies of victims, one has to wonder if they really have any idea what they’re talking about. The .223, fired from an AR-15, will do significant damage to a body, but any high power rifle will do significant damage to a body. There is nothing special about the .223, whether fired from an AR or a bolt action hunting rifle, that makes it do more damage than when using a similarly constructed bullet fired from another rifle. When you compare the .223 to common hunting calibers, you’ll find that the .223 is far less powerful and will do far less damage to a body than those calibers will. Compare a .223 with common calibers such as a .243, a 6.5 Creedmoor, a .270, a .308, a .30-06, a 7mm Magnum, a 300 Magnum, and up and up and up. The .223 is, compared to common hunting rifles, an anemic pea shooter that will do comparatively minimal damage to the body of a victim. As I said before, AR-15s are exceptionally lethal tools in the hands of a mass shooter not because they defy the laws of physics to do incredible damage to the body of the victims, but rather because of their portability, accuracy, ease of operation, rate of fire, very low recoil, and magazine capacity. |

18. 5.56 / .223 ammunition is not a high powered bullet in the grand scheme of things.
Yes, it will kill someone, and do a lot of damage before doing so; but other types of ammo are much more deadly.
In a few years, the civilian rifle market will follow the military, and 6.8mm ammo will be the default. Nobody will be talking about AR’s and 5.56 lethality at that point. |

22. So I got 4 kind replies, but no one really addressed my question: why did it take DNA to ID children?
I’m kind of left with the impression that their little heads were blown off in a pink mist.
Am I wrong? ![]() |

23. Well, an ER doctor did say that two were essentially decapitated.
So, yeah, that sounds pretty disfiguring.
This article (not something I'd ever agree with in every particular) has some interesting discussion of the kind of tissue damage this ammo can cause, and why: https://senseofevents.blogspot.com/2018/02/why-ar-15-is-very-deadly-military-weapon.html |

25. Headshots on small children
If they were huddling under their desks with their heads down, he would have shot them in the top back of the head.
The bullets would have exploded out of their faces, making facial recognition impossible. It's horrific. |

… any country not in a declared war inside its borders.

12. True
But I'm referring to extreme examples like El Salvador, Colombia, Nigeria, or Brazil.
Many of those countries not only have deep-seated social problems - but poorly enforced gun laws, with police and even government officials often conniving in the gun trade themselves. Many gun deaths aren't even accurately recorded in some of these countries. In other words, where the GOPee is leading us to if they had their way long enough. |

14. We have more numerically but not per capita. We're not even top 10 in that regard.
Oddly enough, to me anyway, Greenland FAR outpaces the US in Suicides by gun.
3rd world nations have vastly higher deaths per 100k |

Does Chuck Grassley REALLY need $$ from the gun lobby or the status of US Senator?
Before it's too late for redemption, why not stand up for truth and the well being of the people you ostensibly represent? |
