Meanwhile, this lying creepy asshole

https://www.inquirer.com/news/lawrence-stackhouse-capitol-riot-sentence-proud-boys-gianos-myers-20220617.html

Basically got just a few days in jail for wearing proud boys uniform breaking windows being part of the riot, and assorted other nonsense. The prosecution was only asking for 45 days but the judge who did not appear in her words to the defendant seem particularly sympathetic, gave him two whole weeks in prison.

I’m telling you, if you had done the same to a Wawa convenience store in Chester or Delaware County, you’d probably be looking at a year in prison without question. The only good news here is that he lost his job which was involved with his company having defense industry contracts with the federal government.

If the shoe were on the other foot, and it had been a Lefty demonstration, it’d be 5-10 years minimum and possible sedition charges and there’d be no squawking from our side.

We need long sentences as a deterrent. Give these people a moment of pause before even thinking of ever doing this crap again. Frustrating.

Sounds like protesting outside the free speech zones at a political convention not like an invasion of the Capitol building with a violent mob.

Sirhan Sirhan was definitely the victim of poor legal representation. After all, he was only guilty of inconveniencing Robert Kennedy and melatonin disorder in public. Why the life in prison already?

as seriously as to what these people were part of. Taking part in an insurrection is tantamount to dissembling our very country and that is a damn serious charge. Shame on them and the legal community that are not outraged at these lenient sentences. They should be looking at maximums, not the least sentence possible.

It is well documented.

One of my favorite questions to ask 'conservatives' who rail about the 'stolen election' is this:

"Okay, now suppose the Democrats lost, but made the same claim that the election was 'stolen' with the same exact circumstances including having nearly 60 court cases thrown out for having no evidence and a left-wing author making a movie with all the same type of 'proof' as 2000 mules, JUST like we've seen on the right... You'd agree that they were right and the election was indeed stolen from them, yes?"

How they twist and deflect and do absolutely anything they can to avoid answering the question because they want to say that under the exact same circumstances the Democrats would be wrong but they also can't lie and violate their tribalism by agreeing that the Dems would have just as valid case when they know damn well they would reject the left's claims of malfeasance.

Modern US conservatives are the most monumental flaming f#cking hypocrites in all of human history.

Your last few sentences are rt on pt. If that mob had been a Dem mob sent to action by Dem President as DT did it would be sentences in the years for everyone involved and no one would be disagreeing with that.

At this point as dejecting / morally deflating as this appears, the lack of accountability for anyone of consequence and the obvious dismissive nature of the crime these woefully light sentence convey is very disconcerting and problematic and gives the impression that the Dems see this as not a very serious matter.

the only other thing I could think of was this part, which was interesting -

(snip)

Stackhouse, a former sheet metal worker who lost jobs with government contractors like Boeing and Lockheed Martin after his arrest, pleaded guilty to one misdemeanor count of illegally parading or demonstrating on Capitol grounds last year.

(snip)

Stackhouse’s attorney, Ubong E. Akpan, maintained that her client had been misled. He’d traveled to Washington, she said, genuinely believing that Vice President Mike Pence could overturn the 2020 election results, and that public pressure in the form of the crowds in the Capitol was part of that process.

She noted that since his arrest, he’s voluntarily sat for interviews with the FBI and the congressional committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack.

(snip)

So that light sentence was apparently part of a plea deal in exchange for being interviewed by the J6 Committee (the FBI interview would have been de rigeur regardless).

But I agree that he was a lying arrogant asshole.

for it to happen.

The US justice system, at all levels, is riddled with actors that aren't following their pledges to their oaths.

Many have always been corrupt at heart and will go where money and power take them. Others have been corrupted by watching their compatriots get rich and powerful on "using" the system.

I like the idea of prosecuting the ones that go against the legal codes.

But I really like the idea of going after those that make this happen. All the way from the top, to henchmen, to family, to enablers.

There is more there than there appears.
