General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI dont watch cable news 24/7 but I haven't heard anything
about Ukraine for at least a week. Yes these shootings are
an important news story but does it have to be 60 minutes of every hour. There isn't that much new information that they couldn't take a 10 minute break for other news. Another thing it seems like the subject now is
mostly on the police response to the shooting rather than
the crime it's self.
I will show my age here but back in the days of CBS news Walter Conkrite would cover world events in what 22 minutes. Today we have people glued to MSNBC or Fox 24/7 and we are less informed now than 50 years ago.

Back in the 70s the support for the Vietnam war calapsed
when Walter turned on it. Now we have no trust of what the news media feeds us. They all have their own political agenda.

(38,311 posts)It was useless noise. Television is not a good medium for news, not now, and not in Walter Cronkite's day.
My wife and I read all our news.
There's plenty of international news on the internet.
For example, the front page of dw.com usually has all sorts of news about Ukraine.

what we heard the day before.

(31,515 posts)and not enough time on factual reporting. There is a place for the emotional, feel good stories, but world news programs should deal with current events without injecting the reporters opinions.
I get my news from PBS and online sources that I trust to be based on facts.
Your Walter Cronkite reference is spot on. His evening news was a staple in our house when I was growing up and until his retirement.

(5,897 posts)It's not surprising that Ukraine has dropped off the radar, at least for now. The Uvalde shooting hit home for many people and domestic affairs are always more newsworthy. That said, I believe the flow of weapons to Ukraine is continuing and accelerating so hopefully they can hold out. I'm sure their soldiers are exhausted.

(10,495 posts)Over saturation of the story wears people out about it. I have remarked about the lack of other news since the shooting. I am not insensitive to what happened, quite the opposite, but we dont need it to be 100% of what we see and hear for days. My 85 year old mom stays in tears and cannot turn it off. She needs a break from it.

(231 posts)for Britbox, Acorn, etc., they have Sky News, for free. Sky News is UK, Europe based, they cover the war in Ukraine every day. They even have a US based reporter. From what I have seen it is more fact then opinion, though, they do have opinion shows. I also watch the BBC Word News channel which is only included in a very expensive cable package, but is from the UK/BBC perspective. Sometimes is just sounds like repub talking points, but it does include news from all around the world. There is a lot going on that our main stream media doesn't report on until it is a huge (ratings) story.
