The Constitution is a FUCKED up document.
Any document that enshrines guns as a national religion is fundamentally flawed. I am tired of towing the patriotic line. Days like today don't give me much to be proud about. I don't care if people want to call me un-American. ON EDIT To all of you defending the constitution by saying it is all about the interpretation...well yeah sure. That is what we are left with. But it is fucked up to have it there at all. Why elevate gun ownership above every other physical object. It simply has no place in the document at all and has been a source of misinterpretation all along.

2. The
Constitution doesn't enshrine guns as a national religion. The republican party does.

3. Well, it's the radical right-wing interpretation of the 2nd Amendment
And it may get even worse if local governments are prohibited from restricting guns from public places.

11. Not really just pointing out that
People who do this type of fucked up shit always seem to go to soft targets. The kid in new york went where he went because he knew the odds of running in to another gun was slim except the guard, he said that specifically.

16. Sadly, mass murders do bring out the trolls here
And I say that as someone who owns a gun, but believes in that governments have the right to regulate gun ownership and how I can use that gun.

9. Believe it or not
I had actually come to this conclusion earlier today when I was trying to explain to someone why I could no longer talk politics with civility. I told him that any document that was so undemocratic that minority elected Presidents and Senate could appoint an SC that would override policy supported by 60%+ was a fucked up document. That was this morning.
This afternoon's event was merely the exclamation point. So yeah, it is about more than just the guns. But for right now, it is about the guns. |

7. It's not the constitution it's
It's the NRA and gun humping assholes who twist the constitution to their will and idiot voters who allow it. I just saw gov. Abbott on tv feigning outrage regarding the shooting and I about puked.

14. It's all context
If you allow people to drop the initial clause, it becomes easier to misinterpret. Most of these right wing 2nd amendment fan boys don't even know the first clause exists. They are never going to give that clause the weight it deserves (because it's like first...ya know).

19. The Constitution named a "well-regulated militia" ...
... Scalia was instrumental in expanding gun ownership to any yahoo who wants one.
Yes, it IS about the interpretation. https://www.cnn.com/2021/04/16/politics/second-amendment-heller-scalia-indianapolis/index.html#:~:text=In%20that%205%2D4%20milestone,the%20legal%20understanding%20for%20decades. snip In that 5-4 milestone authored by the late Justice Antonin Scalia, the high court for the first time ruled that the Second Amendment's "right to bear arms" protects an individual right, rather than one related to organized state militia as had been the legal understanding for decades. |

20. Amongst the people I know/am aquainted with;
I have asked each time of them when this type incident occurs- "Do you think we have a problem with gun violence in America?'" Sadly, the gun owners I know never answer yes. We cannot truly solve this until we all agree there is a problem. They are mostly afraid (they reveal this when giving me their response) that the government is going to take away their guns. I try telling them they are predicting the actions that could be taken, when all I wanted to find out was if they think we have a problem. No one is going to be able to confiscate weapons. What I'd like to do is make them harder (not impossible) to obtain. Same with ammo..................

22. Let me help you out...
We're the country with the oldest (or one of the oldest) governing documents and most other civilized countries have a 20th Century set of governing documents.
Maybe that's the problem. |
