6. Boy, lots of good ones today, and some especially good ones.

Lucky us to be living in a golden era for political cartoons. Seems like only...yesterday, last year, century? the genre was supposed to be dying -- along with investigative journalism.

13. Well, it's not in great shape. First off, there are fewer newspapers...

...and even fewer of those are willing to have full-time editorial cartoonists on their payroll, serving as a steady "homer base" for the cartoonists.

Many use various syndication services to shop their work out to the papers and sites that pay a fee to use rather than have someone in-house, but unless you have an established reputation it still amounts to a version of the "gig economy."

19. I was fortunate to grow up with Garry Trudeau.

One who has been very successful.

And knew Hank Ketchum (in CH).

My favorite encounter was spending several hours at the Dubliner in DC with Art Buchwald - just happenstance at the bar while I was waiting for the nearby Teamsters building to open up for my IT duties.
